Got home the other day to find that an out-of-control bell bollard had bitten a perfectly innocent Audi. Bonus points for spotting the camera-shy driver.

A 73 plate as well, a brand new £50,000 car from February 2024. People don’t deserve nice things.

I caused a bit of scene by taking the photos. The driver asked if I thought it was funny. She was so solemn and judgmental. As if I was photographing a dead child. I said "yes of course it's funny, and loads of people on twitter who see the photo will think its hilarious". This prompted anger and horror from a group of 15 men playing dominoes. Apparently I shouldn't laugh at a woman in a dangerous situation, the bollard was impossible to see, and I was a racist. I said the danger is to pedestrians when drivers don't look where they're going. The racism accusation was repeated lots. Somewhat challenging when you're the only white person outside Blacker Dread's old shop, pretty much the HQ of Afro-Caribbean culture before gentrification wrecked the community. I got a little intemperate. Attack the best form of defence. I shouted "if you don't think I'd laugh my head off at a white person driving into a bollard, you're a fucking idiot", with plenty of the index-finger-at-temple stupidity gesture. Then everyone lost interest. A most upsetting episode. I pass the domino players often. They're ten yards from my door. If I get more aggro I'll appeal to the elder statesman, a good friend who I helped when the police victimised him. He knows of two other black locals I helped when the police tried to stitch them up. Race relations here have suffered a lot since the gentrification explosion. White people are blamed, including the ones who aren't property owners.

This must have been quite a high speed crash looking at the damage.

I passed that on my commute the other day. Very nasty! From a quick read of an article it looks like it happened in the middle of the night so luckily nobody about.

I know the cobbles are a pain there, but a bit extreme using the pavement.

Officers also seized a number of illegally adapted e-scooters and e-bikes, including one scooter that its owner claimed was worth £15,000.

One of those high-powered scooters hit a van outside work a few weeks back. Rider wasn't wearing a helmet, obviously. He was doing at least 40mph when he hit the van, which was stationary. The paramedic showed up, and while the injured explained they'd ridden into the back of a van, she took a look at the person shaped dent in the rear door and said - totally deadpan - "well yes, I can see that"

Not one, but two fire extinguishers.
Neither of which will be of much use if the thing goes flambe.
Easy tire change mode.
