Last thing to do, while you shift to the lowest cog, hold the derailleur with your hand in place, and shift as high as you can go without letting the derailleur move.
Do this several time, then repeat the process of tensioning the cable (if it gone slack again) to ensure the cable housing is nicely bedded in (it need to be compressed in order to delivered 100% shifting).
If just to reduced the amount of play on the levers when shifting, like to reduced the need to over shift just to go up one gear.
