  • So just a quickie ; Has anyone ever reached out to Somec to try and get any info vis à vis serial numbers, frame dates etc ?
I am having a hard time finding stuff on my Sirius and was wondering if they were the kind of company thats likes receiving the odd email or if they were the kind that just ignore.

  • Actually they are very responsive. Worth giving it a shot.
They do have some catalogues online, but not sure they still have records of frame numbering etc.

  • Ok good to know i will send them a message and see what i get back.
I wouldnt be surprised if they referred me to the catalogues which i have downloaded and scrutinized already ! But yeah just in the hope that i may get a tad more info i will give it a go!

  • Definitely worth a try,I received a lovely reply to my
query from Lara, about a frame I picked up from Jingle Jangle .She couldn't give an exact date 88-92,but remembered with "great fondness "the owner of the Austrian shop who had purchased it originally.
The shop dated it to '89 or 90 and were sure it was sold as a full bike with Dura Ace groupset.

  • Oh cool so there is some tracability. I know mine is quite a limited and recent series, from 2002.. so i am hopeful to get something.
But 2 positive reviews is good enough for me to give it a go !

I'll post feedback if i get any info as there is basically no info on Sirius framesets on the internet i can find apart from the odd sale. (One of which is a double 650 from Robin Williams collection RIP)

  • A quick update as i did get a great and welcoming answer from Lara on my somec sirius :

Your Somec Sirius is really in very good condition. Thanks to the code
you gave me I can tell you it is a frame built on 23 mai 2000 for a
shop in Paris called cycles Boittelle, now it exist no more.

It adds a shop before the shop "velo futur" where the guy i got it from told me he had purchased it in 2002.
However a build year of 2000 means it was earlier than i thought.

I am going to carry on and hopefully find out some more about the number os Sirius frames produced and maybe more !

  • That's very cool they replied to you and so swiftly and helpful as well. Big it up for Lara at Somec.

  • She's amazing.
She's always welcoming and quick to reply too.

  • She's great ! I have tried contacting other companies before with no results, so its refreshing to get someone who is happy to talk and try to help out !

A small update from Lara, i guess the official Somec research stops here. But i have the OG name of the dealer who imported the frame. Apparently my frame was featured in a magazine at some point but i and the previous owner havent found the magazine yet...

we built many Sirius frames, almost all of the them where custom built. Also the famous, sadly passed away, actor Robin Williams ordered one of them, recently sold at an auction.
Having no more the complete records office of the past I cannot inform you about the quantity of Sirius we built.

  • Ah right now I recall the fact that they indeed have lost previous records :-/

  • Yeh that kind of sucks, because mine is from 2000 so also quite recent !
But i cant find too many online so i doubt they were produced in a large quantity... but i guess i'll never know :'(

  • Aha, of course there's a somec thread! I asked in the "what's it worth" thread but this seems like a better place - does this look like a genuine somec? 26.2 seatpost according to the ad

  • Mmm no, I don't think so. There's usually a panto on a Somec.

  • Panto where? Fork crown?

  • Seat stays and lugs too .
Not sure re the first ones .

Got a pic of the underside of the bottom bracket?

  • underside of the bottom bracket

No unfortunately not. I’ll ask the seller.

  • If you're thinking of buying it, I'd skip it unless you're 100% sure it is a Somec. I don't think it is.

You always send an email to them, usually Sara is fast and kind in replying

  • But also the quality of the lugs and brazes...doesn't scream Somec quality either to me

  • No it looks pretty basic to me. Will ask seller about any pantos/markings saying it’s legit, if not I’ll probably pass. Thanks for the advice!

  • My second Somec of 2021 ! This time an Olimpus model made from Dedaccai Zero tubing which i havent seen too many of a si think most people ordered the more "famous" columbus tubing.
Already started building it up with a modern Centaur 10s groupset.

  • That's really cool! Never seen one. And such a bright beautiful colour.

  • It's not the most "decorated" frame, it has panto on the fork and he seat stays, but otherwise rather simple. Although as usual with Somec the quality of build is immense and everyhting is so smooth.

    From what i can tell it's a 97-98 model

  • Here she is, almost full Centaur, still need to find me a headset (currently a 105 on it).
Nice frame to ride and with the modern groupset its lovely and smooth

  • Decent price on a 55cm Somec (possibly deda tubing) with what looks to be a DA 7400 gs. Seller is based in Austria but could be good for someone here.

  • Bang that's the money shot.
