  • Yeah, as basic as it gets. Heat pump is a way off, need to get the house up to scratch thermally first which is probably not far off 10 years away realistically.

@jellybaby because the door is always open so the cat can get to 'his' bed of course.

I'm not sure I'm sold on having individual TRVs though I realise that's the major benefit of that kind of system. Maybe I just need a slightly better dumb thermostat with a weekend programme.

  • I've got a Netatmo one. Not the latest and greatest but very easy to install with lots of different installation options (I replaced a dumb thermostat with it, others seemed a lot more complex if you wanted to do that as they need wiring to power as well) and very reliable.

HA integration is good through the Netatmo API or Homekit.

  • Anyone played around with a Shelly Plus Plug?

Thinking of getting one to monitor the power usage of my home office. Everything runs off one plug (2 gang extension with one into a UPS and then distributed from there, another for stuff that doesn't need to be on the UPS). Total load is rarely >2A.

Seems to be a well thought of brand that doesn't tie you into their own private cloud. I'd be looking to get the data into Prometheus to store/graph - there seem to be lots of exporters already.

  • I haven't used those but I have some Local Bytes smart plugs that do what they say on the tin. They will talk to things like Home Assistant or you can talk mqtt etc

  • I've got a "Shelly Plug S Gen 3" on my washing machine and connected to Home Assistant. Also easy to set up an automation to tell me when it's finished.
