Anyone have a 15T freewheel they want to shift?
15T freewheels for 1.370" threads are like hens' teeth.
Isn't the received wisdom that Dicta freewheels suck regardless of colour?

EDIT: Now that I think about it - I used to run an MTB hub with a cog, not a purpose-built freewheel so probably should be looking for 16T+ and a chainring.
No idea, but I thought it'd be a cheap and cheerful way to up my gearing. If I get a WI 16T there's £65+ gone and then I need a new singlespeed chainring for £no-idea.

a new singlespeed chainring for £no-idea.
Under £30 for up to 48T Gebhardt Classic 4-bolt 104mm PCD, a bit less from Bike24

Cheers. Just checked and I've got a 104x32T Salsa front ring. I've made an offer on a WI 16T so we'll see how that pans out. A new chainring and chain can't hurt. #reallyshouldbeworkingonotherbikes

Cleaned and inspected for damage. Rear skewer seems bent - probably because of the shitty chain tensioners.
36T chainring will require a new chain. Don't have one. Are WI freewheels 3/32 or 1/8th? Will need to check that before getting chain.
Can't find 4-pin freewheel tool. I'm sure I have one but I could be thinking about my Aussie toolbox because I can't find it.
So, now have disabled bike and very sore arm (from working, you filthy gutter mind)

I need to find a better way of stopping the quick release wheel sliding in the dropouts. The chain tensioners work a bit but they're sub-optimal. Can you get track bolt disc hubs?

Hope Trials?
Edit: Would mean a switch from screw-on freewheels to cogs though.
-
• #35
Hope Pro2 Evo Trials hub is the usual choice for single-speed + disc. Also solves your gearing questions because you can stick nice cheap sprockets from 12T up on there, instead of lashing out £80 on a WI freewheel every time.

Costs more than the bike though. Looks like I'll be sticking with the QR and a tensioner of some sort.
What chain should I look for? Anything new in the world of SS?
-
• #37
Too costly I'm afraid, especially since I just got a WI freewheel.
-
• #38
What chain should I look for?
Wippermann 1Z1 or 7Z1 depending on width. Cheap, bushed and very corrosion resistant.

Actually, I'm going to kill all the birds with a big stone in the form of a bike shop.. bare with me caller..

Thanks to http://woolseyofacton.co.uk/ for the almost immediate turnaround of the Inbred..
Now 40x16 with WI freewheel and new chain.

Chaintugs...
These appear to be for the QR 'axle'. Aren't they just going to ruin (crush/bend) the QR skewer?
-
• #42
Don't see why. It's performing the same job as one of these and I've used Surly Tuggnuts on two different bikes, without any problems.
-
• #43
I bent one of the cheapies and the end of the skewer that came with the bike but that might've been from crashing. I guess looking at them they just don't look strong enough - I presumed they should cover the axle. I also though about just wacking in a bolt in the trackend in front of the axle to fill the gap a bit.

Cycle Surgery only appear to have these..
http://www.cyclesurgery.com/pws/UniqueProductKey.ice?ProductID=UP0039BXXNot sure they're small enough to work with QR skewer though.

I get that when looking at QRs in general :-)

Aren't they just going to ruin (crush/bend) the QR skewer?
In order to pull the wheel forward, you'd have the shear the skewer. That's not too difficult for an M5 threaded bar (you can use single action, rather than compound, bolt croppers) but it's still likely to be beyond your powers unless you use a tiny chainring, especially as there's a load of friction helping to resist the chain tension, not just the shear pin.

This is just for city riding. I guess my version of city riding has thus far been a bit different from '10mph Dutch bike cruising'. :S
-
• #48
Yeah, I presumed it was crash damage but the thread on the QR was squished where the chaintug was and that seemed like an odd thing to happen from a superman crash.

Typically, none of the bike shops here have what I need so ordered Surly Tugnut from wiggle.

ur a tugnut
ect.

Are any one of these colours better than the others?
