-

It's a Brian Rourke isn't it?
-
• #37
Nope. Can't afford custom built at the mo.
-
• #38
Ah, i was asking if you were going to get a custom built frame but i hadn't seen the second page. new forum spins me out sometimes.
-
• #39
Ah, I see. Nah, funds don't allow that extravagance at the present time. But hopefully my genesis will sell, then when new frame arrives I can sell the cross check, and start saving for a Rourke.
Thats the plan anyway. -

As posted in another thread, the new frameset is a Soma Wolverine, that's if the dockers dispute ever ends on the west coast of good old us of a, frames are stuck at the port so Soma can't ship to UK. Had a chat with Mosquito Bikes, who have ordered the frame for me, gonna see if we are anywhere near getting it by the end of this month. So chums give me some other options, I've ruled out a Straggler due to being fed up with a spacer stack as tall as Big Ben, test rode a Genesis Longitude yesterday, very nice, but maybe too mountain bikey for me, like the look of 2014 Croix der Fer, but wish it had bigger clearances, just looked at All City Macho Man Disc, size 52cm looks about right, don't have any experience of them though. Will be looking to spend around £500, needs clearance for 38mm plus guards, disc brake mounts, downtube shifter bosses if poss, but not a deal breaker, would use bar end shifters if the right frame shows up, reach no longer than 380mm, stack 550mm ish.
Thoughts? -

Personally, the Wolverine is worth waiting for, especially the huge clearance that won't feel like you're stuck on certain wheel/tyres size.

That's my thinking, just seeing what else is out there, just in case. Made the error of letting my eldest have a ride on my cross check today, he's been riding my day one, but seems he's now got his eye on my geared bike, come on Soma.

How about this one?
http://pelagobicycles.com/bicycles/framesets/stavanger-2014-frameset.html
BikeCAD says reach 387 mm and stack 549 mm at size 53. Disc brakes and clearance for 37 mm with guards - close. No downtube bosses, though. But it's a mid-low trail setup (~45 mm), so it should handle front loads quite well. Didn't try it yet, but Pelago seem to know what they're doing. Very nice store in Helsinki as well, and helpful guys.

What about the Singular Kite?
http://shop.singularcycles.com/collections/frontpage/products/singular-kiteEDIT: Ooops, sorry, forgot you need rack and guard braze-on...
-
• #47
Aye, looked at singular. Nice bikes, but not what I'm after. Holding out on the Soma making it across the pond. Just lining up my options in case it doesn't get here.

Equilibrium frame n fork now sold.
-
• #49
Well, bummer, Soma not sure on delivery, but got a good deal on 2015 Genesis Croix de fer frameset. Time to have another Genesis in my life. Will easily get 35 and guards, so, all in all, I'm very happy with the outcome.
Will start a new build thread when new frame arrives. -

All I can tell you is to just stick with the carbon fork for now, a light stiff carbon fork make a nice difference to how it handle.
This also means, if sjs won't take em back, I have a brand new set of Thorn disc forks, black, uncut steerer, 52mm offset. £100 posted within the UK.
