Any idea what year it's from?
1998-ish, catalog here (en francais), sold as frameset so not sure on what an original build would have been but probably period da (7700) or campag (chorus 9 speed came out in 1998 I think? I have no idea about the italian stuff really). mavic changd from the rectangular to the oval logo around then so anything what that on for the hoops maybe? -

Record and Chorus went 9 speed in '97, got 2nd generation Ergo in '98 and Record got carbon Ergo in '99: PM me your e-mail and I'll send you the catalogues.
And if you're short on space...

Thanks +6pt,
That catalog is amazing!
What I'd do for one of those titanium 296's or 292's!
Here are 2 of the pages relevant to this thread!
Still be interest to know what these would have cost in 97/98!+Scilly.Suffolk,
Awesome, I'll P.M you! -

7 bikes in a small london flat. Bravo.
And that light blue look is ace.

That KG111 frame with the possibility de monter garde-boue et porte bagages looks very appealing. Anyone ever seen one built up?
-
• #10
That ergopost went for £67 quid in the end. Guessing it didn't go to you?
-
• #11
No, wasn't happy with the condition in the end and it's a lot for something that isn't perfect. Happily pay twice as much for a NOS one though. I'm quite a fussy bastard in some respects. Have found a Corima Ellipse in a bike shop in Singapore and have sent them an email to see if they still have it. Fingers crossed.
Big-ups to +Scilly.Suffolk for the period groupset catalogs too. I'll post some .jpg's when I get a chance. -

I got a bit like that towards the end of my parts accumulation, completely understand. If they do, that'll be awesome.

That does look v smart. Probably helps that there are no spacers.
Which converter and shim did you use? -
• #16
Cheers. It was a Thomson shim and the converter came with the bike. Looked to be a Nitto one as it was knurled on the surface.
-
• #17
don't use a converter. frame is too nice for this. you can buy just the threadless bits from CK for a very reasonable price.
much smarter: http://chrisking.com/parts/conversionkits

But it's a 1" threaded fork on th KG121 that I have. Pretty sure you can't install a nothreadset onto a threaded fork or an I missing your point? I want to use a modern 1 1/8 stem.
-
• #19
no i missed that part. I don't know what i'd do in your situation.

I'd probably go with something like the Deda Murex
here it is actually on a Look kg166. they do have them in black.

the murex doesn't take oversize bars, does it? if it was a front loading/hinged quill he was after there are a few out there.

Bike shop in Singapore that was advertising the Ellipse turned out to be one of those cock tease shops that are still advertising stuff they don't have.
@bright I do see your points however I reckon if done right, you'll never see a converter, the only way you should know one is there is the threaded nut under the stem which kind of looks like a spacer anyway. Not aiming for the porn thread, just wanting a modern twist on an old bike that isn't particularly rare nor expensive. I've done meticulous vintage builds before and don't have the time now inclination to go down that route with this frame. -

Thanks for the heads up.
It belongs to the forums own Rab @Campagnology who is also a fellow Look owner. We struck a deal and it should be with me next week.
It's got €20.00 of brand new Corima shims too. I'll make a judgement call when it arrives if I feel it needs a new coat of lacquer/have some decals made.
Inspired by @Forty4Sixteen 's Corima wheel relacquer but obviously need it to remain at exactly 25.0 and not shave any carbon off/inadvertently make it larger.
If anyone off the forum that fancy's having a crack at replicating some decals as they're not available anywhere I believe, please give me a shout.

Well,
Here I go again. Thought I'd start a thread in CP so I didn't block up the LOOK thread with my excitable ramblings.
It all started off looking for a new practical aluminium frame/carbon forks to transfer over my 5700 105 from my Trek to. I was all set to get a Canyon Endurance Al frameset when I got drunk and bid on this.
Waking in the morning, I realised it had a 25.0 seatpost (Please PM if you have a NOS/great condition Ergopost)
It had 7 days to go and I was sure/hoped I was going to be outbid. I wasn't and am now the proud owner of this sweet sweet steed which came all the way from Athens.
When it arrived, it had some fissures in the paint I wasn't expecting where the Alu joins the carbon tubes but the good folks over in the LOOK thread have half convinced me that it shouldn't be too much to worry about.
If you've got any catalogs or any information about how much these were new/what the standard build was when new, please post here:
Vague plans are as follows:
Pancenti's
CX Rays
Hope RS Mono's
Rotor Compacts with Q Rings
CK 1" Threaded Headset/Shim/3T Stem
Ergonova's
Not sure on any of the above except the CK headset as I already have that so if you have any ideas, please let me now. Trying to keep this is vain of Kent lanes hill climbing machine.
Anyway, now I have a pair of LOOK's but an unhappy girlfriend. We now have 7 functioning bikes in a small flat so it's a trip to my storage locker tomorrow to drop something off there:
Here's my other AL264
