  • never used 5 or 7 , just the green no 3 has always been fine for me

  • works well bringing components back to a decent lustre as well
the green is 4 actually, my bad, and sans silicone

here is 3, which i also use, favor the green though tbh

  • the thing is with the colnago's up to the 90's have a better paint finish imho, tough the clearcoat is easily worn if over zeallous, the 90's to 0 ies in my experience are the ones that suffer paint falling off
i was cleaning grease/road muck from the headset cup area on a pretty pristine 90's once, and a sliver of paint flaked of the ht, luckily it was in one piece and a was able to super glue it back on

  • you may want to future proof (if only a little) the insides of the tubes by spraying protector inside before any building, as this can help prevent internal corrosion, i use an industrial wax type protector my engineer mate gives me

  • Riteo, so i think the Meguiars Deep Crystal is the same as number 4^ when it comes to paint. Rubbing compound is for deep oxidization of the paint so I won't be needing that. Polishing compound is a must to get things shining. Turtle wax Polishing compound has 'CLEAR COAT SAFE' written underneath the advertisement so that's grand, have Wax sorted.

I'll have a look for the internal protection wax, I know a fella doin steel fabrication so he might know the sort.

    thaks again Saarf.

  • no worries, just don't polish too hard )

  • mighty happy.

  • got Polish today, Columbus sticker arrived.

Headset Remover & Paint cleaner will be arriving Monday.

    plan:
Remove Headset, Clean the Frame with cleaner, use my magic marker, Polish, apply Columbus sticker, wax, give the forks a chrome shine and the clean will be finished.

Finally Decided on Rims, gonna go for Ambrosio Nemesis tubs.

Sick of looking at ebay and the extortionate prices of NOS Campy Rims + I prefer these & there in abundance.
    Next purchases have gotta be:

    • Pro Gold Lubricants Epx Grease
    • Juice Lubes AAS Juice
    • Nemesis Tubs
    • Bottom Bracket
    • 8 speed Hubs
    • Spokes
    • Nipples
    • Wheel Building stand
    • Spoke tension tool
    • Tires
    • Glue
    • x2 brake cables
    • Chain
    • Brake Pads
    • Hanldebar tape(Fizik cause $$$)
    • Pedals
    • & after that a F Derailleur and she'll be flyin.
  • Two Vittoria Corsa SC Tubs on the way. Half price + free postage. Happy days.
    Velox Tape
Nos 95 hub, without skewer or cassette ring(which I have from the used hub) for cheap on the way. Waiting for the paint cleaner still.

  • Really looking very good so far

  • Stupid ebay store sent me Meguiars Cleaner wax instead of Deep Crystal Cleaner

    GAWD

tis sorted now, in other news.

  • when the Deep Cyrstal Cleaner arrives I will Clean + polish + sticker + wax the frame

Ambrosio Nemesis 36H in the post + Nos 95 Rear hub + Grease + Assembling Paste + Polishing Dremel

Next week = Spokes + Nipples)

  • Waiting game is tough stuff.

  • "patience, young jedi"

  • Feel it I also do

  • Just found this thread, I've found it very interesting.. you wouldn't believe it but I'm doing the exact same thing as you @Patfatenough, I bought a Colnago Saronni Mexico back in May this year with the intention of making it beautiful again as a project during uni. At the time the question whether it was a Super or a Mexico drove me insane so I emailed a guy from Colnago in the states (Kris@colnago-america.com) who confirmed the serial number to be an early 80's Mexico. It has 4 crimps on the downtube and 2 crimps on the top tube. It also has no chain stay bridge and 'Brev Colnago' writing on the bottom bracket.

It's currently getting the rear re-chromed and I shall be splashing it in luxurious red flam paint soon. Will keep you posted with it.

I like that your project is build up with periodic bits, I'm afraid mine is going to be slightly more modern to make it slightly more easy to ride.. no down tube shifting antics!
