  • Hi everyone!

tapsnbath and I are in a slighlty damp Gaiole but its all good... just driving past panzano and upto Radda on the way in was fantastic.

we are doing the 75kms again this year... but the bikes didn't arrive on the plane with us and are coming "tomorrow" :S

so we'll either be on a pink woodrup and a hetchins if they arrive in time or we might have to get new rides on Saturday.... I've always wanted the excuse to buy a bianchi...

Be great to have a beer or 2 - we'll be in town most of Friday/Sat/Sun.

  • One of my lads at work called in sick, and we have a busy weekend. So this morning, instead of getting on a plane from City to Florence, I went to work. Tonight, instead of eating out in Radda, I'm eating take-out in SE10. Je suis desole.

Obviously, I hope that those of you who are in Gaiole this weekend have a fabulous time, and Mrs Jangle and I would very much have wanted to be there with you.

  • Very sad to not be there this year but went for a Yorkshire leroica ride this morning and will be drinking Chianti and eating olives soon- have a good ride everybody! roll on 2016

  • Well, that was mucky. @Cycliste has now made it two out of two for having her rear derailleur fall apart on L'Eroica. Not quite as catastrophic as last time - one of the jockey wheels made a successful bid for freedom. Only 50km of jury-rigged single speeding for her this year.

  • Having a beer post ride. Filthy weather but still a good day out. Seemed to be all up hill, not sure how they managed that. Bike needs a full de-Tox. Too scared to retrieve it to pack it away. Was making strange noises by the end. As for my lovely leather shoes....

  • some day, some ride eh? rain all the way from Montalcino to Asciano, made for some interesting descents on the strade bianche... my bike went from black to white as did my kit. it all went well until a car managed to run me off the road in Radda after 200km, just 9km from the finish. could have been worse but left me with a very bloody elbow and a hipper that reminds me of my skateboarding days. all in all it turned out to be somewhat of an extra heroic edition ;-)

  • My bike now has a 3-4mm Tuscan "patina" all over!

No mechanicals, no walking, 209 km completed in daylight - all my ambitions achieved!

Actually the weather in the afternoon was pretty nice and I was glad to get full value out of my old jersey (which is my best bit of vintage kit - it's really vibrant purple with yellow writing and bits), though by that time it had stretched almost to my knees...

Also, incredible quantity of souvenirs. Has anybody drunk the wine yet?

  • Not yet. Made a bit of a dent in the pile of breadsticks, though.

  • took 3 bikes for me, my buddy and the gf.. no mechanicals, no falls, but a bit of a slog thru the rain and muck.. but still smiling :)

  • No mechanicals for me, but @Cycliste's rear derailleur went AWOL again. That's 2 out of 2 now. Last time it exploded completely after 10km, bending the mech hanger, so she did the remaining 125km single speed. This time it waited until about 60km in before firing one of the jockey wheels into the verge, never to be found again. She got it fixed at the last food station though, so only had to do about 50km single speed this time.

  • wow, 2x part L'Eroica without gears... respect, extra heroic!

  • I'm pretty sure that is not in any way similar to the phrases danstuff used at the time.

  • you weren't the one wearing a Molteni jersey and having her man pushing both his and your bike up Monte Sante Marie by any chance? that was a very gentlemanlike thing to do

  • I had to actually walk DOWN a bit of hill at one point, goes against everything I hold dear !

  • Not us - @Cycliste may have had only one gear, but she rode it all.

  • ouch. this was one of those extremely bad ones if I remember correctly, more rut than road a bit further down

  • That s the very bit I walked down ( I only had a rear brake at the time :) found myself on the wrong side with no way of getting over !
