  • Didn't go for metallic paint last time so keen to try it now.
The Cane Creek 40 doesn't seem to be available anywhere in silver unfortunately.

  • Been looking on eBay since you said this, there's a couple atm, on is supposed to be unused here. Can't figure out what EC49 means tough...

  • Way to big. Ec49 is for ID 49mm headtube.

Just buy a new CK if you can. You won't regret it

  • Should I thought about that, I need to improve my Google skills... Thanks for explaining!

  • Thanks both, again let down by my web searching technique...

I do like the bulbous rounded look of the CK too...

  • Really tempted to give these canti brakes a go... With some nice green koolstops for my ceramic rims... They cleaned up nicely, I'd probably pimp them up with nicer mounting bolts.

  • And canti work with road levers if I remember correctly?

  • Mmmm I have some silver Frogglegs I've been thinking about letting go of you are interested?

  • I'm really liking the idea of using these old things... On my beater, the old weinman single pivot calipers work surprisingly well, old basic things aren't necessary crap.

But then I guess it may look weird/too cheap, so equally tempted by your offer. The tektro cantis I used before were good but lacked a bit of quirkiness, which these old things or the froglegs have...

  • Expensive, but also having stripped the old ones I have it's the same thing, without the triangulated design but beafier chunk of aluminum... If anything it makes me want to use them more.

  • Know that feeling! I like those and although I imagine they might a little spongier than modern ones, Im sure they will work great.

If you end up feeling like you want something different and classic I have some original mafacs that need plenty of polishing but would looks great.... free to you Loic if you want to use em.

  • Also I have got a CK- but it’s in brown/bronze colour. I got it for a pretty good price and would pass on for same. No crown race. But pretty much NOS

  • Thanks all, plenty of brake choice now!
Having checked with the experts on the pre 50s thread (I do realise they are more recent) my lovely old cantis are Lee Chi made (thank you @Rik_Van_Looy ) which kind of make them less desirable (for this built).
The danger with my dog's dinner of parts is being too eclectic... Maybe it's not a bad thing to restraint the anachronism a bit. Probably @Hulsroy 's froglegs are the way forward and @knowthejo 's lovely Mafacs deserve to end up on a more appropriate build...

  • Froglegs are super grippy too - ive got them on my commute and I would say they have more bang than my Paul's on my tourer.

  • I can take some photos sunday

  • And would probably look more adequate... After all, I'll be using external bearing BB, oversized handlebars, inline seatpost, etc

  • Thank you, I'm interested, although I realise you said you'd only consider selling, no worries if you have a change of heart and want to keep them.

  • About the silver versus black components... The crankset I've had new in its box for a couple of years is black. Not ideal, then earlier today I saw a bike online that had TA Spécialités Carmina cranks... Which gave me an idea.
Luckily on the Sram Rival cranks the spider is removable. A bit of sanding and polishing later this evening... Too late to hate it, it's done! Needs a lot more work but I've got time given the pace of that project.

Sorry I never replied. Thanks for another generous offer! I think I'll stick to Ed's suggestion as I'll try to stick to silver, the price of the M-part is inoffensive given cartridges seem easy to source and replace, and I like the shape (not so much the graphics but they're discreet enough)

  • Good plan.

    Cranks are great! Love em
