I think it's because he was always a Hackney boy, rather than VCL or HHYCC. Herne Hill featured in his life but it probably wasn't the foundation that it was to the others.

Tao was doing track league back when I was doing it, so 2009-2012.

Ha, relatable. I took the Campa Super Record group off my Colnago and replaced it with DA as soon as I got it. My Italian insta/strava friends were completely baffled but I am just happy spending less time keeping the bike riding. I would think all bike mechanics prefer the robustness, durability and relative ease of maintenance compared to 'the other brands'.
