Yep - that's what I was hoping for. On the first stage he almost fulfilled it, before crashing. Gone backwards since then.

Rider not performing after crash shocker!
-
• #39779
Was expecting the usual boring generic stuff but there's some great hardcore in there.

I've got a bonus day off work today and I can't be bothered doing much. I was hoping for a full day of Giro then saw today's stage 🥱

I'm a demanding (armchair)DS.

Crosswind action maybe soon.

I'm now onboard with the wolfpack

Ewan off the back...briefly.

• #39786
Cav gonna be pissed but not as pissed as Gav. The speed of Dainese was immense

Where was DSM's sprinter? Not in the Top 10
-
• #39788
Err.
-
• #39789
LOL
-
• #39790
Cees Bol?
-
• #39791
Dainese is also a sprinter, who rides for DSM. And won the stage.
-
• #39792
They were talking about how well-positioned DSM were while they were maneouvring into position with 3km to go - but then one of their lead out men won it? Even the commentators thought it was Bol as he crossed the line.
-
• #39793
Dainese just said Bol told them with about 2k to go that he wasn't feeling it - fair play to them for switching it out so successfully.

I think Dainese has been their main sprinter so far in the Giro, so am surprised they were riding for Bol today. The latter is a big lad so maybe he only gets the protected role on the pancake flat stages.
That's Dainese's third top ten finish on a stage in this Giro, Bol doesn't have any top tens.

Great sprint by Dainese.
Cav's leadout was missing 50m I think, would have won that with Morkov still in the race.

Just caught up. Jeez, Gav’s look at Dainese after the bike throw. Poor, poor lad.

I was on Bol-watch, and they kept mentioning him in the last few kilometres so I was keeping my eye out.
The only reason I was looking out for him was that over the last few grand tours he's raced, DSM have done some brilliant lead-outs and then he's not delivered.
I've not seen any stages live apart from today's, and hadn't heard of Dainese, but the way the commentators had it after the finish they made it sound like Teunissen getting the yellow jersey in 2019.

Dainese was the best sprinter in the u23 ranks for a couple of years, cleaning up the wins. He's been developing slowly at DSM (which seems to be their way) but came close to a stage win a few times at the Vuelta last year.

Agreed, without him Cav stalled just when Dainese committed. Cav is as likely to go to the Tour as me now I reckon.
Wow, that’s even worse than I imagined it to be.
