I have a lot of sympathy for him, but I think most observers of the sport know that it’s a cut throat environment and one where a lot of young riders get chewed up and spat out. The second professional contract is harder to get than the first, especially if you have no promising results from your first two years.

Really he's unhappy he feels he hasn't been told why he is out clearly. And has assumed he'd just get a 3rd year renewal easy. Perhaps his agent is the one that has something to answer for really.

As I said, I have sympathy. He did okay in his first year, despite COVID impacting the calendar, but then had a bad accident at Het Nieuwsblad and concussion kept him out for a few months. You’d think the team would sit down with him and agree some objectives for the rest of the year with a view to an extension, as they obviously rated him as a rider, just to take the pressure off.

It sounds like they did the opposite, basically sent him to races but with no plan for his development, nor did they make it clear that he wouldn’t be getting an extension early enough. That’s poor, but sadly quite common.

I don’t even know if he has an agent, a lot of younger pros struggle to get one as there’s only money in it if you become sought after and well paid.

I do think about starting some sort of 'guidance' business. Not an agent as such but a portal for helping people out. I've done it offline a lot.
