  • Has there been a stage that warrants it? I'm not following cycling close enough to say, but aren't the gravel parts just sections in between paved road, similar to the spring cobbled classics? So to not slow down too much there you take your fastest bike on tarmac and hold on for dear life on gravel. Similar to an uphill time trial, you take the bike that's fastest overall unless you're allowed a bike change

  • idiot amateur grav-bros

just get an arkose thread >>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Have to say that I'm loving Horner trying to teach Michael matthews how to sprint.

  • EF have raced on the Synapse, I think Specialized’s Diverge has been used at Roubaix before. But not much in the World Tour as the surfaces haven’t require it…yet.

That’s why Trek Segafredo, EF, Canyon/SRAM, Alpecin Fenix, etc, are sending riders to gravel races…to sell those new gravel bikes.

  • Nah they have only used various versions of Roubaix.

  • True, and problably good exposure for a cheap investment.

as for those gravelbro races to become something else than a niche american thing, i'm a bit dubious, the format doesn't seem to allow great filming and provide much excitment.

  • If there's enough money around there'll be a helicopter and some amazing shots similar to Strade Bianchi. Seeing as every man and their dog is now in to gravel cycling, including myself, I think it's just a matter of time

  • That would be e-bikes.

Do you mean commuter bikes then? Because this is an e-bike, too. So I guess electric should be a macro market containing all the original pedal-bike markets that have e-models. Otherwise you lose the surface segment trends. Might need Maj to weigh in on this. (Is he/she on the @ list? Wasn’t worth the risk.)

  • I'd be happy genuinely happy to see that, but i can't see what a 200 mile-slog on fire roads brings over XC mtb, XC mtb marathon, Mtb stage races (cap-epic)
i think like the rest of the world, I'd rather watch biathlon than cross-country skiing.

  • No, all of them. Shit like this is very popular in England's former Europe:

  • Anyway, we also have an MTB thread >>>

This is pro cycling. You know, the kind that has more motorbikes and cars on the course than bike riders.

  • Exactly. It was a non sequitur.

  • If it quacks like a secateur...

  • is remco nose breathing?

  • that was beautiful, what a cocky cunt

  • I'm not sure how anyone but a full-time professional would be able to produce numbers like those described in the below article:
    https://www.velonews.com/events/monuments-gravel/power-analysis-ian-boswells-ride-at-unbound-gravel/

  • EF riders haven’t ridden actual gravel bikes in any gravel races to date, they have chosen to ride either the SuperX or the SuperSix. The bikes they are riding in that pic you linked are SuperX’s, which is a CX bike, not a gravel bike.

  • Agreed, but he's going to take the GC lead after the TT tomorrow I expect.

  • Good to see Tubby Tubs BurgerKisser taking the win today for us fatties.

  • Boswell isn’t a full-time professional. He has a marketing job with Wahoo.

  • I don’t think the carbon Topstone was out for Kanza 2019. The Supersix looked the right choice for Old Man Mountain as it was pretty smooth. Lachlan rode the Topstone for GB Duro and Badlands. Ted King has been on the Topstone for gravel for a while, so I’d expect to see EF on it again pretty soon. I’ll defer to your insider knowledge, but surely they’d ride the Topstone for Unbound or similar now…?

  • Remco saying he went for GC time rather than the stage. Should have bolted when the big dude 50p-ed the corner.

  • No, Topstone is pretty far from what you would want to be riding at the pointy end of a fast paced ‘proper’ gravel race, amongst select group of riders who are at the top of the game currently… which is what the final selection at Unbound will always be. Yes, Topstone is a gravel bike, but I wouldn’t call it a gravel ‘racing’ bike by any means. It has old man geometry….. kingpin rear end would be far from ideal in an out and out sprint situation. It’s more suited to long distance mixed terrain races like GB Duro, or events like Grinduro that have a wide variety of terrain, including proper singletrack off road sections and the like. It’s also a bit of a porker thanks to the kingpin system.

  • Agreed, but he's going to take the GC lead after the TT tomorrow I expect

    Already got GC

  • Good to see Tubby Tubs KissingBurger taking the win today for us fatties.

hippy's kept it quiet that he's racing.
