I think the steepness of the gradient made it look worse than it actually was. Once the gradient lessened he limited his losses well. It could have been fuelling, or he could have had an off day after the rest day.

A minute lost on one climb today, with 2 mountain stages left, with Yates looking as if he’s improving, and Bernal not looking invincible.
