Evenepoel lost the same time as Bardet, who has been second at Strade Bianche and second at the Tour, and less time than Formolo, Martin, Bennett and a lot of other experienced and quality riders so it wasn't all that bad unless you think a 21 yr old in his first three week race after more than half a year out injured has no excuse for not being what some people desperately want him to be.

Excessive monitoring and rigidity that leads to worse results. How's that working out for you DSM?
Have they not heard about external stressors? Every gumby that's ever listened to a trainerroad podcast could've told them about this shit.

He was on 2x wasn't he?

25 mm and rim brakes too, I knew my CAAD10 was a real gravel bike all along.

2nd place finish in last year's. How do you pick favourites?
Last year Giro was a bit of an outlier

He’d make a good domestique at Ineos...
Where all the riders work hard, and seem happy to be there, because of the all the money.

My 15yo Tarmac will be re-released next year as an S-Works Gnarmac with no changes except a little Bernal sticker.

You'd still dismiss him? But Even-o-please is fine even though he's never raced this long and has been injured for most of the last year? Who else did you pick as a fave? Lance maybe? :P

Eurosport highlights remind me of how good the ITV4 highlights are, with their proper introductions, commentary overdubs to explain what's happened, and actually showing you the GC leaderboard at the end.
Not to mention better presenters etc. The production quality is just 1000x better.
What a stage though. Great scenery, great racing, and Bernal looks very very good.

Exactly this. Also, they don't just drop in with 35kms to go and assume you know whats happening/has happend that day, but give you a proper little catch up on the days situation.

I really don't understand the point of the the "Breakaway" aftershow, it doesn't really add anything. The same people people who did live commentary are doing the post race commentary, and they just say the same things again. I like Orla, but she's there as a host not an analyst, so she's not giving much of a new perspective either.

They did recon, before the Giro, but indeed not the day before.

Not only that, but then keeping the bits of commentary that say "if you've only just joined us, you've missed some spectacular racing."
Right, well I'm watching an hour - long "highlights" show - any danger of showing us some of that?
I'm glad Eurosport exists and I shouldn't moan so much, but I can't wait for the Tour coverage.

Ha, came here to say the same.
Masnada knew it was going to be a tough one for Evenepoel

Totally agree with this, I just wish ITV weren’t such tight cunts about putting out HD channels for free everywhere and not just on sky.
What’s weird though is occasionally in the past Eurosport have done highlights like ITV where they tell the whole story of the stage. Guess they just can’t be fucked to do it on a daily basis

I can’t wait for Imlach! Bring the Smedleys!
-
• #34193
I’ve never seen Imlach on telly outside of those three weeks. Where do they keep him?
Presumably they need to get him out of storage two weeks before to start work on his quiff.
-
• #34194
Even weirder is that their 5 min highlights on youtube
do summarise the first part of the race. Yesterday's does this in just 1 min, and this alone would have provided a useful intro to the hour long "highlights" of the last 30km.It's not really good enough considering we're paying for this - I take it the GCN stuff is identical?

Tell me another sport where you get this much live ad-free coverage for £20?
-
• #34196
snooker?
-
• #34197
I said sport. I like snooker but it’s not a sport and they don’t really need to put helicopters up to get live pictures.
-
• #34198
Snooker is a game.
The difference between a sport and a game is that in the former you can compete at the highest level whilst drinking a pint.
