Looking back at the start list I’ve realised the huge number of riders who don’t seem to have made it long enough into the stage to even make the TV coverage.

Ticking boxes in the mental game towards the Tour

Even if he traveled in the team bus, rather than cramped up in the passenger seat of the team car, it does seem like quite a lot of hours of travelling to do right after a big effort at the end of a week long race.

Maybe they broke the journey up and did part last night and part this morning, but even so, still a good amount of time travelling.

Edit - looks like it is the autoroute almost the whole way. Perhaps 3 and a half hours. If done in two parts by team bus, perhaps not too damaging. Sometimes transfers between stages in the tour are over an hour (I presume?)

His next race is Amstel, a week today.

He's only raced Paris-Nice and Pays Basque so far this season. After Liege he's not set to race again until the Dauphine.

If they don't start in the town they finished the previous stage, all of these transfers (thin red lines) were well over an hour

The Giro had a reputation for lots of long transfers. The riders complain about it a lot.

I have avoided this thread the past 24hrs cause I taped the Urrate stage. Final 6km was not taped tho :(

Yep, pretty far back at 500m but got it just right.

Bennet and Froomey had them on at the tour last year.

Probably would have been in contention for stage 1 too, if he hadn't been caught behind Aniołkowski who unclipped and almost crashed one of the final corners.
