2010 - yeah my favourite moment in cycling. Both of them in National Champions Jerseys, clear of the rest of the field and in top form. Cancellara ends up winning by 2 minutes or so, the gap he pulls out in 15 seconds is ridiculous. His Roubaix win the following week is similarly nuts.

Sagan has said that he is someone who thrives on racing and found it difficult to train properly during lockdown. He was spending a lot of time with his son though, which he wouldn’t normally do.
He raced a lot last year, over 60 days I think when most riders did less than 50 days and you could see he was improving at the Tour and then the Giro. I still think his Giro stage win was hugely impressive given the race situation, he held off a day long pursuit from the peloton, initially in a group but then on his own when a GC race was happening behind.

Yes, of course. I hadn’t thought about how different it must’ve been for the parents.
That Giro stage was a real beaut. But can’t Wout and MvdP match that effort? Would love to see all these big names form a really early group and tear each other apart even more than they did in Strade.

Cancellara dropping Boonen on the Muur in 2011 (?) was possibly the most ridiculous show of strength I’d witnessed before MVDP last Saturday.
Edit: it was 2010.
