Pinot looked uncharacteristically strong, hopefully he can keep it up. Yates seems totally zen being in the lead, Chavez is still glued to him too so will make for an interesting dynamic for the remainder for sure.

Really surprised to see Froome crack like that-his style on the bike is always so ungainly it's hard to gauge if he's struggling or not...

Anyone else wonder if froome is just using the giro for training for the tour?

Hopeing to clear up his AAF before the tour, and not wanting to get a result here and the bad press?

Froome has a problem now. If he carries on he could blow his chances of the Tour. If he pulls out he might risk some of his massive appearance fee.

I don't think he arrived at peak form because if he peaks this early he'll not be able to sustain it into the Tour. Probably hoped to limit losses whilst he was riding himself into form for the third week?

Either that his epic motorpacing rides over Christmas have fucked up his rythym....

How long can Yates hold the form? Do stage-winning efforts early(ish) on in a grand tour sap energy later on? Interesting racing to come!

Maybe a suitably low speed crash resulting in an injury serious enough to take him out the Giro but not so serious he can't train for the Tour...

Cyril Gauthier and l'equipe commentators keep ripping the absolute shite out of Froome's bike handling, style on the bike and possible loss of title.

I know it makes me a cunt but I appreciate their humour-compared to Sean Kelly sounding like he's having an aneurism to actually laugh and hear some excitement whenever a French rider farts in the direction of the flamme rouge is a nicer way to spend the afternoon even if it is bitchy as fuck.
