Ah no! Goolaerts RIP

So dreadfully sad. I was going to rewatch this morning but I don’t think I can regard this year’s race as entertainment any longer.

Just terrible news, and The Guardian have put an awful article up about the race, barely bothering to pay tribute to Goolaerts before going on a smug diatribe about how proper fans prefer classics to stage races. Really fucking weird.

Just had to report an image on instagram of Goolaerts at the incident. Can’t think how anyone thinks that kind of image is acceptable.

Didn’t have any problem with that other than it being a poor article.

La Passione sent out an apology this morning after using the race as a commercial opportunity while Goolaerts was in hospital.

Yeah, I thought the same as you about the Guardian write-up... and while La Passione's email was a genuine error, Rapha decided to put out their Race Radio jolly today, with a couple of mentions of Michael Goolaerts awkwardly squeezed in. Not even 24 hours... not great.

fuck me race radio is like someone making a script by joining jokes from christmas crackers together. Basically can be boiled down to super awk full body shots, shit 'skits' like flinging some soil and trying to present whilst riding. About as funny and perceptive as your average British teenage male's instagram feed, or cycling's DIY Top Gear

Pro cycling goes on, of course, but an inane and jokey Roubaix report (and ultimately, flogging Rapha) the very next day?
