  • indeed still a bit hard to see, but I don't think his bars would have gotten jerked aside so fast if it was his front wheel catching a barrier leg

  • There's another view in slo-mo on twitter that shows his arms jerk BEFORE his wheel gets near the outermost leg of the fence. So either a bump or, now looking at this other angle the black coat or advertising grabbed his arm.

  • Yeah, that one.

  • His wheel didn't hit the barrier leg, at least not until after his arms already moved.

Also, when did Gilbert swap his motorised bike for the one he finished on? I didn't see him bike swap..

  • Yeah, that gif proves it-his wheel defo doesn't touch the barrier and he was probably so focused on looking down that he wouldn't have seen the coat before it took his bars out : /

Gilbert did so much work on the front before he jumped that I thought he was working for Boonen, truly amazing that he managed to carry the victory. Boonen for Roubaix now though!

  • Fantastic solo win from Gilbert ...

  • I wondered what their little chat was about. Wasn't sure who was going to go for a win and I guess it wasn't until deep in they both knew who was feeling good. Gilbo clearly on form but thought maybe Boonen would've dug deep for his 4th. Double bike fail didn't help him :S

  • Echoes of Froome running up Huez... With a more attractive running style and better swearing of course.

I guess there's only so deep you can dig when doing a 260km course at that speed-winning a monument wearing the Belgian National Champs jersey is also just so fucking cool.

  • True.

What was the go with that Bahrain rider. Did he mix up his caffeine with his tramadol?
He didn't appear to be looking elsewhere but still managed to run into his teammate.

  • Apparently he's known on the team roster as Ali 'Bin Tucup Ufucup' Hussein

  • Thinking of going to see Paris Roubaix. Has anyone been and is it feasible to get around to a few different sections on a bike?

  • I go most years, sadly not this time though. I usually ride the pave on the saturday (all the route signs are up and everyone is out riding it!)
The area around Wallers en Haveluy has a section before and after Arenberg. There is a sector of pave between them that isn't used. When they pass after the first sector head (sector 20) head to Wallers (sector 18) using this unused sector and a bit of road and watch them twice.
I then head to Arenberg and watch the rest of the race on the big screen.
If you have a car you can get to more sectors but route planning is a lot harder, and the police may close a road on the day so your plans may get scuppered.

Someone did sabotage handsome Peto with a jacket!

I knew he didn't drive his biek into some floor metal!

    Chapeau Peter! Chapeau!

  • I knew it was one of those cheating Belgian fans! :P

Now, find the person with that bike t-shirt...

  • Typically boring Flanders with one long break being brought back at the end, yawn. And Quickstep getting it wrong again. Sometimes I think they don't even follow this thread.

  • They could just use the same cast and a different inscription.

  • Pffft. Should have styled it out.

  • Hey, thanks for this. Yeah, can't say I'm keen on driving around as would also like to have a few drinks...

  • I went last year, on the motorbike. Was mint on the motorbike. Saw it 5 times :)

You'd have no chance in a car or by bicycle. 2 times max.

Be carful too. It can be a rush getting from one point to the next. I came across a biker who'd been taken out by a car at a junction. Nasty.

  • Ok, interesting. Any spots you'd recommend in particular?

  • I forgot what sectors I did now. But all were great. Was going to go to finish but also succumbed to the big screen on arenburg which was great.

Get the map out and look at the sectors and plan a route in advance. You should be able to get a map with closed roads too, so can plan around them.

  • Still his fault those #youmakeyourownluck unless you Luke Rowe
