  • Is there a date and location set for Wiggo's attempt yet? Lee Valley?

  • Lee Valley?

    Yep.

  • Some colleagues received free tickets for next weekends Revolution and Storey's hour record attempt. Goddamn I better get hooked up for Bradley's record attempt shakes fist

  • Is that a Shimano CN-NX01 chain?

    aero outer plates.

  • Bobridge cocked it up hourstyle on the individual pursuit gold medal tussle yesterday

  • I saw that...crazy that he should pace it how he did, I can kinda understand it for the hour record, but he's got so much experience at IP that it points to it being a mental thing rather than his plan.....he was never actually going to make the catch against someone of his opponent's quality....

  • I've not watched it yet but a fast start can be used if they're not expecting to win to panic the other rider into doing something silly.

  • Brad was recommended to use the paris track during the bbc coverage today. Quickest track around right now (no pun intended). The guy who won the madison with cav years ago and rides his scooter for him.

  • ^Rob Hayes

  • Rob Hayles^

  • Bob Nails

  • Good point...but with a coach at the side of the track telling them what to do that can't work much at that level. On another note, I'm sure I saw the Swiss coach showing his man lap times on an iPad when he went through...is that allowed? I know they can communicate with the riders, but showing them on a screen...

  • As I said I've not seen it yet. What was his coach doing? Yes iPad allowed for pursuit. Not the Hour record though. The Hour doesn't allow electronic timings for the rider. The intention is that it's basically self-paced.

  • From an interview with Rohan Dennis before his hour attempt...

Do you imagine that they’ll be ‘walking the line’ [like many pursuit coaches do to give their riders feedback on whether they are up or down on schedule]? Or how will it be? ‘We need you to get up…’ They’ll almost be able to talk to you won’t they?
“Yeah, they’ll probably yell out a couple of things every now and then but they’ll be walking the line or maybe do it a new-age way of making me read every now and then – having the split on an iPad or some sort of tablet.”

  • You can absolutely have an iPad for an hour record, but you're only allowed one person on track giving you splits. Voigt was using the same system that I use which live tracks your power, speed, cadence and CdA etc to track centre, which is then relayed to the coach trackside. But really all you want for an hour record is individual lap splits and then occasionally an update on your overall progress.

  • I guess the new rules are now 'in line with modern day pursuit rules' as they said they were going to do.

Maybe now, but what was Dr Hutch's anecdote about the commi's debating on whether or not an electronic lap counter was against the rules?

  • You can't have any kind of on-board display on a track bike, maybe it was that?

  • Nah, I'm sure he was talking about timing stuff on the track. Computers on the bike are definitely out.

  • Yeah I'm not sure. You can definitely have a computer behind the saddle and a coach with a tablet these days - I've got quite a good Android setup that I use for riders on the track.

  • Yeah, 12-13min mark, he says "they banned digital devices, which included the track-side track counter, as it was supposed to be a back to basics record".

  • BTW Dekker has given away nothing so far. I think (think!) that if he can do 370w for an hour at sea level then he should break it off 0.210m^2, that would correspond to 335w at Mexico altitude. That's assuming alright weather, could be 10w more if it's high pressure etc.

TBH I'd rather he doesn't do it as a) I'm writing an article for Procycling mag and it's extra work if he is the new record holder b) everyone will be more likely to go to altitude with zero crowd/buzz c) he's a certified ex doper (and has the UCIs full support, WTF)

  • That's UK domestic TT power. Shit, 335W? I could probably break the record if I could knock a bit off my Cda.

Yep, I hope he fails, because if he gets it, the record is tarnished once more and altitude >>>.

  • Altitude ^^^

  • attitude \/\/\/

  • I could probably break the record if I could knock a bit off my Cda.

Do it. More champion stripes for lfgss...
