Anyone done much on the South coast - probably looking westwards from Poole? Have booked a train ticket for a few weeks' time and am looking at a c.100m ride from Poole to Dartmoor and a wild camp; or perhaps somewhere closer on the coast. Any tips as to where there is nice riding / good overnight spots would be appreciated.

I'd be interested in seeing that route too...

Also paging @gabes?

I've pm'd @gabes (I think)..

He's probably on his bike doing the grocery shopping...
...in Morocco or somewhere equally local to him.

What are you riding? I can throw together a pretty sweet route from Poole to Dartmoor. I hope you like hills.

That would be awesome! Will probably be riding a swiss cross loaded up with with bikepacking gear; likely to be running 30s as tyres so looking for mostly on road but can handle gentle off road.

The roads aren't even gentle down here ;)
I found a strava segment that is 38% this morning.

Ha! Sounds fun. I like a hill, 38% might be a bit much for me when I'm laden with camping gear tho...

Did an overnight trip from Reading to Uffington, up on the Ridgeway. Wild camped on the hill above the white horse.
Would take less next time. Didn't use camera or blow up mattress. Two 29er inner tubes take up a lot of space. Note to self - put fresh batteries in torch / tape spares to torch.edit, just added a pic

Has anyone got a recommendation of somewhere you can get the train to after work from central, just outside London, camp and then back to work for the following morning?

south downs?

Somewhere around the Darenth valley would be my choice. Think Jack Thurston had a spot in his first Lost Lanes book.

North Downs around Ranmore common has alot of good places to stealth camp this time of year

Irvinghoe Beacon or Wedover Woods are within a few miles walk of Tring station if heading North out of Euston is more convenient.

Suffolk, anywhere along the Ipswich to Lowestoft line

I'm thinking of doing a last minute ride out from Calais to Amsterdam and back. Usually I'm a methodical planner but this time I really have left it late, i'll be leaving this Wednesday.
I'm wondering how easy it'll be to find cheap & bike-safe overnight accommodation without booking, i.e. just turning up in a random village in the early evening. I was considering bivvying but the cold these last couple of weeks has scared me off I think.
Also does anyone have any experience of the LF1 North Sea route? I don't really have time to plan anything exciting so i'll probably just follow that unless someone has something I could use.
Any places to see en route or general recommendations?
On with the research. Ta.

I've ridden the LF1 from Hook Van Holland to Amsterdam. Its excellent quality and reasonably well signposted. If you can deal with english cycle routes you'll be fine, barely even need a map/phone. It can be bloody windy though...

I'd just go with booking.com at lunch time ish work out where you want to be. On the notes state you have a bike. Most places are usually pretty helpful.
Maybe I've missed the point -

I have thought about the wind. Not much I can do about it I guess apart from head inland a bit. Good to know they're signposted ok.

Good plan, just hope my phone works ok out there. I'd still like the option to just turn up but I guess that's pretty risky.
4 day trip starts in 9 days
