I couldn’t resist it. There was so much “no” that needed turning into “yes”. The chance of failure was extremely high and nobody appears to have had a go before. Isn’t that why idiots like me do these things? Dare I say that isn’t it quite the definition of adventure?

You can. Too many people lose their lives in the Highlands every year due to bravado like that.

Does it come across as bravado when you read it? They're both experienced riders/experienced outdoors, they seem well prepared, well planned and still smart enough to call it quits when conditions were obviously against them.
