  • Didn't see today's as happened before the Eurosport coverage started but read there was a number of riders down and a motorcycle-no idea if the cycle was part of the reason for it though. If he was hurting from yesterday there's a good chance he fell badly just trying to protect what was already sore : /

  • @andyp I meant todays

  • It happened before tv coverage began, but from I've read it was carnage. Morabito was run over twice by race motorbikes. Eurosport showed footage of the aftermath and it took 30 seconds before the camera picked up Quintana, who was a bit further up the verge than the rest. There were at least ten riders down, if not more.

  • Quintana out is a massive shame. Amazing he got up after yesterday's crash.
Good efforts from Martin and Gesink, and a Gutsy ride from Froome today. Can't quite understand how Valverde is riding so well at this point in his season. Not great to see.
Was it my imagination, or was Navarro riding for Contador a bit on that last climb?

  • and little engine in his bike's frame goes wild, according to Spanish tabloid media. it does seem as though the bike has stopped and then starts rolling again

  • /would/ explain his performances at the giro this year ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • Woah! That's well dodgy! Could that little motor kicking in at the wrong time have caused the crash? A sudden acceleration to the back wheel making it flip out from under him?

    Magnets.

  • That is seriously dodgy.

  • It starts moving again after he unclips his right pedal.

  • I imagine CSI Madrid is pretty low budget affair.

  • Really guys? Motors in bikes? This shit again?

  • hope not, but look at the video and tell me what you think

  • The rear wheel is spinning, it catches the ground, the only parts of the bike to provide any traction are the front tyre which is already turning the right way and provides a pivot for the bike to spin and the pedal, which is metal. Look at that glassy road. Come on.

  • Look how far he slides at speed without losing any lycra or skin - those roads have barely any traction when they are that hot.

  • What Dan said. Also look at the camber on that bend.

  • hmmm, yes that might be the explanation and I certainly hope so, but it still looks very very funny. do you think the rear wheel was still spinning that fast after being pushed to the ground during the fall? and then, with minimal weight on it, provide enough traction for enough time to make the bike complete a half circle?

  • He would have caught De Marchi if had a fucking motor in his bike(s)

  • My first thought was

"It's called a fucking hill-things try and roll/slide down it"

but then I looked at the momentary partial view of his bike and just decided, "nah, fuckit-dirty cheating bastard with a fucking spitfire engine horseshoed into the bloody BB shell"

  • That would make sense, those bikes would be light so hardly any weight could mean no loss of traction. Case solved.

  • In Logrono, waiting for the stage to start.

  • Well jel, of where you are. Not photo orientation.

  • lol@ rapha belt

    jel@beinginspainwatchingvuelta

  • Does that make @Howard and @Doctor_Cake the only forumites to see all three grand tours in person this year?

  • It totally uploaded in the right orientation on my phone. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
