Bike theft isn't high exactly in most of Norwich, though it seems so in stats compared to the rest of the crime levels. A d-lock like that would be suitable for most "normal" bikes around the city during the day.
For more valuable bikes it's hit or miss, I know someone whose bike was stolen from outside the sportspark while locked with a middling d-lock, and my own shed was broken into and the unsecured bikes nicked. I use an Abus Granit X-Plus 54 for general locking up duties.

My mum text me a picture of a bike tied up in the city centre with a piece of string the others day. So use two pieces of string and you'll have the edge.

Not to tempt fate, but I don't think the thieves have jumped on the 'fixie' bandwagon yet. All of the people I know who steal bikes go for flashy mtbs/bmxs and try and flog the parts afterwards. I use a cheap d-lock, or a combination spiral cable thing on my bike, and it's not been nicked yet!

Yep, I've had a bmx nicked but nothing else. I still use a decent enough D-Lock to serve my paranoia though.
Welcome to the city by the way, UEA or NUA?

I leave my bike lying around without a lock all the time and nobody steals it. It is a Langster though. Get one of those instead of a lock. Foolproof.

Nice thing about Norwich is that you tend to know other peoples bikes too, guess that's got to be a little preventative if the bike is recognised by people!

Oh nice, to study what? I was on Illustration, graduated last year. There isn't really anything at the moment. We should actually try and arrange some sort of weekly/fortnightly/monthly get together, even if it's just for a quick pint it'd still be nice.

To do Illustration! I'm up for a quick pint haha, little money from my loan so cheaper the better!

Ah great, you'll love it! It's one of, if not the best illustration course in the country

Yeah it's great, I had only spent about 4 hours in Norwich before I moved here, would take a lot for me to move away now.
By the way, what bike do you have?

Haha, i have been down a few times since to check out more of the town/househunt to make sure it's the one for me!
I have a Orbit Pista mate.
Apologies for the garish instagram photo! Only just put some track drops on it, sorting a brake too since it's a new town. -

Very nice!

Nice!
Norwich is flat enough to go without a brake! ;)
-

It's only a clamp on I'm getting, just don't wanna jump into a town that I don't properly know the roads of until I've rode it a few times!

I'm not even going to get in to the brklz argument!

Hahah don't worry Rikki I'm a believer! I just feel safer riding in a new city with a brake to start with, then it's full hipster swag after haha

Aha, product of plenty of time at Bicycle Links declining dubious 'offers' to buy dubious goods!
Howdy folks, moving down to Norwich for Uni come early september, plan on using my bike as my means as transport, main question would be whats the bike theft like in Norwich? Would an Krypto evo 4 be safe enough for locking up? Other than that it's going to be kept inside.
What does everyone else use?
Hope to see you guys out on the street!
