  • With hindsight, missing the early crowds, and not having the usual thought of riding back again looming at the back of my mind, probably contributed to the fun I was having.

This is a really good approach if the crowds are annoying. Last year we had two punctures up front and didn't really depart until after 10, almost chucked it in (we're not fast riders) but forged ahead and had a great time. Much much quieter just meeting the odd cyclist every few minutes. No massive crowds at the usual pub stops, last out at the sports hall, then a morning cruise to the coast. Missed all the rain that caught earlier riders too.

This year we accidentally left with the main bunch and the first leg out to Epping was a bit claustrophobic.

  • Greetings folks,

I drove along the road from Sudbury to Monks Eleigh on Saturday during the day thinking how magical it would be later on with all the cyclists coming through...... Then checked on here later in the day to read all the great posts about which sausages people were taking as part of their kit ( very important stuff folks - take note Team Sky... marginal gains or what....)

I have enjoyed all the match reports.

It is a wonderful ride and yes there are full kit tw@ts shouting at everyone and worrying about their strava / garmin stuff. But we all get that on the commute each morning, it's just life... The people with inflatables, delivery bikes , people manning the feed stalls, cheering people along, stopping to help people with mechanicals, the occasional 'do a skid' shout at 4 am as i'm passed by people on here, it is that stuff that makes it so wonderful................

Keep the reports coming and I hope to have the health and strength to join you all next year !

    Allez LFGSS

    Peace and love,
    Tim

  • It started ominously with a ludicrous off-road detour (long story)

"Chased by a dog" is not a particularly long story. Bit silly, yes, but not long.

  • How I ended up annoying the dog or rather, in the vicinity of it in the first place, is the long part...

  • I'll second the negative vibes about the Paragon riders. Holier than thou about others, but totally inconsiderate when it comes to their own riding, including random and pointless undertaking. Mind you, the Ipswich cycling club also seemed on a mission to make everyone else hate them. But hey, I still enjoyed it.

  • Why you'd choose Dynamo night to ride fast idk

  • I briefly sat on the back of the Ipswich lot, said hello, and the guy whose wheel I was on constantly kept looking back. Not sure if helping or annoyed Fry-face

One year after the Falling Leaves ride, I got chatting to a Paragon guy in Greenwich foot tunnel. They organise a good ride, but being questioned a number of times on "Why is your bike dirty?" was a bit weird

  • Service was spot on!

  • Don't want to sound fussy but the cafe was too hot and the windows were locked shut. Have a word!

  • It's been lovely reading all this stuff. Allez indeed.

    delicious chaos

    ... from @balmain particularly good.

Doing Dunwich by Day next Monday. Four or five of us. Other slowish/Middleaged/notroadiedouchebag type people are welcome to join us... what a great way to spend a Monday this will be. I'm going fixée.

  • Next year I need to find another cafe I can ride too from the beach.

  • There was a pub on the road to Minsmere that seemed open about 9 to 10ish. 10 or 15 minutes from the beach, lovely spot. Might do food.

The Eel's Foot Inn, in East Bridge... worth an enquiry for next year.

  • Ugh, those Paragon monosyllabics. Monday after Falling Leaves asked a Paragon guy at a traffic light if he'd enjoyed it: 'Yes'.
I'm presuming it's public school that's made them afraid of conversation with anyone outside their house.

  • ^exactly. The only bunch of tarragon I wanna ride with is in my Bernaise sauce.
