  • Look at the rear wheel you got... Why would get jurassic pedals? :)

  • Cheers all. The modern pedals have been ordered from Sigma (so I've got 90 days to make the decision!), though @bitterbuffalo if you have some in decent nick for not a lot of dollar would be nice to compare & contrast...

@Breso - Because the rest of the frame is from the Cretaceous period and I've worked hard to keep the nu Look logo off the build! Life goes on though! (if I use those old Campag aero water bottles I'll have the old and new Campag logo's in full site in any case...And don't get me started if the front has to use the (older) oval Mavic logos...)

  • Just stumbled upon this thread through some Look related searches. I just finished rebuilding my 196 which is quite similar to yours.

I originally had the bike set up with Mavic Mektronic, but ruined the rear deralieur it in a crash.

The 11 speed DI2 makes the bike much more lively and fun to ride, if a little bit less eccentric and interesting!

    Hope your build goes well.

  • Pretty much everything here now...

For the front wheel, I opted for a moody 5 spoke from Ali Express - The Mavic IO's are track only, and aside from 58 road versions that were made in 2011 (and the 2 that made it to the UK went to the Commonwealth team apparently...) they aren't for braking. Not that these (Ali-Express versions) will be, but they do have a surface, and least it's not carving up serious dollar for the privilege.

  • Holy Shitballs thats special.....

Cant wait to see this built up!!

  • superfantastiche. good job. get building!

  • impressive!!!

  • HOT.
With the shims for the Ellipse, do they sit slightly more proud at one end of the post in this frame?

  • Dis gowna be gud.

  • Love love love! Keep up the good work!!

  • Not sure, haven't tried it yet. I did try and quickly insert the seatpost and it was a very tight fit, so not sure if I'm going to get busy with a file or something.

  • Finished yet?

  • FINALLY got round to finishing this. Not the greatest week (weather wise) to break it in, though pretty chuffed with how it turned out...

  • Looks great!

  • That looks fucking awesome. It also looks the least practical bike I have ever seen and I salute you for that.

  • I have a relatively cheap solution to convert the 26 mm clamp to a 31.8 without having to buy a super expensive look ergostem.

simply use the front part of a ritchey double axis adjustable stem. This has the exact diameter of the ergostem axis..but it is to small regarding the width. This can easily be fixed using an extra set of look washers between them. they cost about 19 pounds. the ritchey about 30.

so for a 50 pounds you're the man...

  • Really nice composition! I use a silver KG196 bike for triathlon. I want to upgrade the old alu parts to carbon. I like this Corima seatpost. What do you think, is it possible to use it, if I turn it 180 degrees (so the back side is faced to the front)?
    That's what I mean:

  • Dan W...very nice build!

User58818, which Ritchey stem did you use. I find the 4 Axis Adjustable, but not a double axis. Any help would be appreciated. Trying to track down washers now. Will have some photos of my project posted soon.

    Thank you in advance,

  • This is such a nice build. Simply beautiful.

And a great source of inspiration for my own "old carbon meets new" Look project (same era frameset!)

Those proteam colour pedals really make the bike - they're perfect.

  • Looks dope with the black components on navy...

    If only erco. ;oP
