  • Thanks mate.

  • Yeah this looks so sleek, a really nice combination of greys and black. So much time for the DIY aspect too

  • You are right. Bb is way too high. Especially when stopping to read maps it would be lovely to be able too foot down easier when fully load up front.

Got me thinking, put 26" MTB wheelset on it with slick tyres (says 1.5) and it shorten the trails a bit, lower the BB, and effectively helped with a front load.

That's what was the point of my Elephants, being able to run 27.5 2.0" with a trails of 40mm, put 42mm tyres on it and it revert to 34mm.

  • Bloody hell, that BB is high! Awesome build though!

  • this looks so awesome, kind of hoping you keep it raw!

  • I'd really love to see the plans for the mini rear rack if you're open to sharing them. A friend of mine is going to be teaching me to weld and I think it would be an ideal first project.

  • Thank you all. Ed that is a splendid idea. I will see if I can get hold og 26" disc wheels cheaply. Also I might be able to get bigger tyres as there will be more clearance between the seatstays.
I could let stay raw as everything has been really cheap and this is probably one of the last iterations. But I need frames for practice painting.

I actually do not have plans for the rear rack, but I will find photos from the process and do some sketches for you.

  • Mathematic time.

If only the rear end is raised significantly, and the fork is 395 with 45mm rake, chance are the headtube have steepen as well as the seat tube to probably 74 degrees, thus shorten the trails maybe to 50mm (very very rough number).

Add 26" and it may reduced it to 40mm, look like you already got yourself a low trails bike.

hardly. hta started out around 71 degrees. fork looks a bit longer than normal pomp forks too imho.
26" or maybe 27.5" might still be a good idea though for the lower bb, bigger tyres and maybe improved trail.

edit: remember though, that too big/tall tyres will negate the geometry point of getting smaller wheels.

Brilliant project! Any updates on paint?

If you need another frame to practice on I'd gladly bring you (from Malmø) an old Motobecane project that badly needs a repaint. I'd of course pay an appropriate amount as well.
Can't PM as I'm in the nursery - hit me up on fixedgear.se under the same username if you want a go at it.

  • Thanks. Haven't gotten around to painting yet. I have enough frames for testing. Sorry. but I will share my experiences with you so you can do it yourself.

This it what to weeks of touring, 1000 km of gravel and asphalt and rain does to an unpainted frame. Charming me thinks ;-)

  • Charming? it sound fucking awesome.

    I reckon you have room for a low rider, like this;

Or this if the fork doesn't have another eyelit on the other side.

  • Yes. All I want for my birthday is an Granfors Bruks axe and low rider panniers from Carradice (Super C) like yours. They look ace.
But I need the bags before I start experimenting building racks.

  • Honestly you don't need the bag, you can take the dimension of the Tubus rack (if it's available), and make your own.

Would love to have a Granfors, great choice.

  • Thanks. I will look into that. That geekhouse is hot. I am thinking about making my own low trail segmented fork like that.

  • Such technical drawing, much details.

  • Sorry if I've missed it somewhere, but what's the fork you are using?

  • Specialized Sirrus disc forks. They are really heavy, buy I got them dirt cheap... Wheels and stem are also from this shit bike :-)

  • Nice this.

  • Amazing! Did you have an problems cold setting the rear?

  • Nope. None what so ever. Used the Sheldon method.

  • Broke the rear TRP Spyre. So I set it up at an SS with flatbars. Hydraulics is such a treat...
