  • I'd rather have to cross the road, than be unaware of the work that's going on and get a scaff clamp in the head. As someone who has to unload trucks in busy streets, peds can be bloody annoying.

  • That's actually readable. Most of those stickers are not readable until it's too late.

I used to see this in the Netherlands:
No entry sign to the left (red/white)
Mandatory sign with arrow to the right (blue/white arrow)

Very readable from a long distance. It's common in Europe. No need for squinting...

  • This reminds me - About a week ago I saw a flatbed Transit with an LED illuminated "no cycling" sign (i.e. the black bike pictogram inside a red circle). It struck me as likely to be illegal for a number of reasons.

I saw it on Dante Road where they're doing construction work as part of the general tarting up of E&C. It was a smart new looking vehicle, so I'd guess a big builder rather than a small independent contractor (can't remember livery). Its seemed odd that they'd spend money on a "safety" feature of dubious legality. Anyone else seen these?

  • With an arrow pointing to the nearside?

  • I don't remember an arrow, but the whole sign was on the nearside corner. It seemed to be illuminated all the time as well, not just if indicating left or anything like that.

  • Yes, seen them on a couple of those re-cycling transits, the flatbed ones with the big cage. Positioned to the left of the numberplate. I assumed it was something they could switch on when they were pulling in to pick stuff up and switch of when just driving about. Didn't notice the company the vans belonged to but they were not council vehicles.

Edit. Yes, definitely no arrow, just a copy of the red circle with a bike in it "no cycling" sign.

  • NO CYCLING.

You could slap the stickers on all four sides of the vehicle and you're pretty much covered.

  • This was discussed a while ago. A fair few people seemed to disagree with it on the basis that although the message was sensible, having it on the back of a lorry meant that the lorry driver may attempt to evade their responsibilities to look properly on the basis that they had a big sign.

Personally I think it's a reasonable enough approach. The message is sensible and arguing about the medium is a bit of a stretch.

  • It's a warning to cyclists who may be using the 90% of cycle lanes that are on the nearside. Doing nothing wrong, in other words.

  • A huge number of cyclists have no idea what the sign means. Even drivers often struggle, it's why the U turn sign and other more important signs have a strike out.

  • Personally, I don't mind the "beware" stickers all that much. The "stay back" variant is obnoxious and misleading. The "no cycling" one is just fucking baffling.

  • i'd have far less an issue with this victim blaming pissmist if they were matched by a similar sticker in the driver's cab.

  • Wording is key, I would like them to say something along the lines of "Keep clear, driver may not be paying adequate attention".

  • True. Although some cycle lanes are really crap and, although following them is the suggested thing, isn't always the sensible thing.

Here for instance there is a constant stream of cyclists going straight on whilst cars attempt to turn left.

  • Spotted this on twitter. I don't know the company though:

  • jesus what a cunt.

  • Jesus was a cunt, wasn't he?

  • Didn't know him. Don't think he threatened anyone with a baseball bat for going near his donkey though.

  • Just damnation.

  • Harsh. It wasn't even his donkey.

  • Donkey-twokking cunt then.

  • I hear he went crazy in a sainsburys local and smashed up the shelves as they opened on a sunday.

  • Anyone comes near my sainsburys local with a donkey I swear I'll do time.
