  • Interesting undercarriage discussions.... I raised my saddle by half a centimetre this weekend for a 110 miler (longest distance I've done) and got numb nuts at about mile 70-80. Nothing that wasn't cured by walking about for couple of minutes, but it has never happened on other long rides. Maybe I should consider a new saddle with a cutout to replace the Madison Prime I have currently.

Still, assuming that it was related to me tweaking the saddle height (and maybe riding on the tops rather than the hoods, which if the above is true puts more pressure on the sit bones), it's interesting what a small difference can do.

  • Sound like you raise it too much, even a millimetre height difference usually does make a difference.

Drop saddle a tiny bits until the numbness go away.

  • Took a new synapse out for a spin, very very comfy ride; but the fit is too upright for me. Felt much happier back on the TCR, so I'll just stick with that.

  • I've got an SMP saddle, so I'll throw that back on the bike and play around a bit more. It feels like a better fit, but as it has no padding at all I need to get the fit spot on for comfort

  • If you want padding, put some bigger tyres on.
