Don't Frogglegs lack adjustability of the angle of the pad? You need to get that set up well got your cantis to work well.

The crown race is now on, no cutting or silly business required. Thank you fitzrovia bikes.
It turns out I just wasn't being brave enough and it fits fine with a good wallop from the right tool. Glad I was cautious though, better safe than sorry

(I was using the right tool mind)

SKS Bluemels, the wide version
I have to admit, I absolutely <3 this bike. I wanna go full nerdy with some Paul Gino light mounts and other gadgets etc
I've used Gino's for ages now as they look sweet and work effortlessly well.

Honestly the 19.99 I spent on mini v's from planet x are the best <100 upgrade I have made so far.

Pleased for ya! I have an old 31.8mm seat post which works perfectly for installing 1" crown races. Didn't work for this though!
Took my first ride along some riverside single track to work today. Loads of fun. The geometry is so much nicer than the alu CX bike I used to have.

Cross check purchased :-) from the forum no less. Not yet sure whether I'll run it as SS
SS?! Its your pompino again, you'll be buying a NJS frame soon
-
• #186
Ha IKR. Not doing SS I've decided. Gears for sure.

Braking seemed better today, perhaps the pads have woken up a bit. Even got some air on the commute home and managed a 4 set of stairs around the back of work.
Just about to stick some midge bars on it, though I've hated them in the past...

The fork is on, albeit the headset isn't preloaded yet. But I've progressed the build. Things now take a break for a few days as I'm away to visit my parents in the icy north, so let's take a look at progress so far:
Srsly guys I hope you like my washing machine.
I've a few bits that still need to be bought to get it rolling:
-Derailleur shim
-New 10 speed chain (I think the one I have is a bit short)
-New (better) downtube cable stops
-New inner brake cablesThen I have a short-term wishlist:
-Racks
-New front wheel for when riding loaded (I can grab this from my pile of spares)
-Bottle cagesAnd a long-term wishlist:
-New saddle (I favour Romins but they're a bit pricey)
-Inline post (I can get away with the one on there which is a parts-bin find, but inline would be nicer and make it easier to mount my saddlebag)
-New stem (purely for matchy matchy points)
-Bigger fatter less knobbly tyres for road and gravel adventuresApologies for the lack of good pics. I shall take better ones when there's some daylight! But I'm happy - this is one of my favourite bits of a build, when the project crosses the cusp from 'assortment of parts' to 'oh it almost looks like a bike now'.

Obviously the steerer will need to be cut down too.
The saddle is also a touch high for me at the moment, but that's good news as it means I'll get away with the steerer stack as it is now, which is relatively short for a crosscheck.

I have Midge bars on my roller and cc, love them.

• #191
Picked my cc up yesterday, off forum member aspio, was good to meet ya. Stripped headset and stickers off last night, and the good lady wife took it to the powdercoaters this mornin, they're quite busy, so a 2 week wait. Gives me time to get bits ordered and purchased though. Can't fookin wait!
-
• #192
What colour are you getting your CC powercoated in?
-
• #193
Black! Is there another colour for a cc?
-
• #194
Mine is currently black, but I want like a royal blue. Waiting until the current finish is more warn to justify doing that.

I'm thinking of this so far. Not sure on brakes yet and pedals aren't on there, nor is wheel weight. Not that it'll be light. Will be a 1x9 drive train with Alfine cranks. I may change my mind and go 2x9, especially considering as I have to buy 2 bar end shifters as they only come as pairs :-(

JB, I have a 9 speed cassette if you want it. Only did one session on it before stripping the bike down and going 10 speed on this bike.
One of these: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-deore-alivio-hg50-9-speed-mtb-cassette/rp-prod443
11-34Also got some 8 speed bar ends if you fancied going for friction.
Would do both for £25 posted if you were looking to save a bit on those two.

What are those weird stems called that replace steerer spacers and allow vertical adjustment? Not sure what to google...
-
• #198
I'm not sure what you mean - like this? http://ritcheylogic.com/road/stems/adjustable-stem.html
I'll pass, thanks for the offer though! Gonna order everything new for this build.
-
• #199
No worries! No, it's a thing some hybrids seem to have where it's possible to move the stem up and down the steerer without swapping spacers out.

Oh. Weird. Never heard of that.
In another thrilling update, I found these finally. They're really elusive.
