Dam Kal where did you find that 650 super aero? As good as gold!

Started off with forums (many accounts made), then messaging people on pedalroom, basically fishing whether they want to sell theirs, alas a fruitless venture. Then went to flickr, did the same, PMed all people who have picture of the rim and eventually found one, at a good price too! Couldn't believe it myself. It's really coming together nicely. And to top it off I found a Moser pursuit handlebar! Just need to find a 26.0 stem.

Been procrastinating on the wheel build but have a day off might as well get it over with! Here's the wheel finally built and trued!
Couldn't finish the build today because:
- Forgot to buy 650c inner tube
- The rear inner tube was 2inch too long/big?! It's Conti Race 28 for 700c tyre and yet too long??
- Finally hit first major issue. I was really struggling to fit my 27.2 seat post. Asked Tom and even previous owner before him and they both confirmed the seat post is 27.2, but it just wouldn't slide in! So I tried slowly yet firmly pushing it down, it did go in for 1inch and after couldn't go in any further.
Google searched how to ream the seat-tube or perhaps buy a 27.0 seat post. Came back to the frame and the seat post now completely stuck! I think because the tubing is now cold, decided to grow some balls and really gave it a go. It finally turned and slowly slide it up and now it's off! Finally! Took me 3 hours, literally. Will head to LBS sometime next week to ream it. Gah!

I had exactly the same issue with my Somec. Campag Chorus 27.2 went in fine, no other 27.2 post wanted it. Bizzare!
-
• #68
Mine is 27.0
-
• #69
It's odd indeed. The prev owner used 27.2 seatpost just fine. I might buy 27.0 post instead of reaming it.

Had a very similar problem with my Denti, they say usually due to curved seatposts there tend to be issues with getting the seatpost in? If you gonna have a problem finding a LBS with a 27.0 reamer try http://bikefix.co.uk thats were i got mine done.

Thanks Jay! Emailed them just now. How much did you pay them to ream your seat-tube?
-
• #72
Think it was £10 or £15
-
• #73
Definitely cheaper than buying seatpost. Cheers dude!

If you seat post is aluminium sand the it down with wet & dry, it's only 2/10 of a millimetre, start with a 240 grit & work up to a fine & then polish, it doesn't take that long :-)

Nice job so far !
if i were you i would do Monoglaze process, it's easy and even cheaper ;)
Hey mate, that thing cleaned up beautifully. The Tetris decals look amazing (countryboj's Somec looks the tits with them..) and think they'll give the frame a wee bit of a modern kick. You can always take them off if needed seeing they're not lacquered in. Love the tubing and paint on this frame so much, looks a thousand times better in real life. Can't wait to see it built up!
