  • this is going to be a freaking sick bike. stoked on the rack and colour.

    Me too!

  • Read that as B-Twin. shudders

Btwin bike are great value for money, their triban in 650c fit you perfectly for only £250.

  • Obviously NOTHING is set up how it will be finally, but its fun putting things on as always.

    Fit me?
I'll take your word for it. :)

  • Yup, btwin triban 3.

Comparable to a £600 roadbike, only nag is that it may not be put together by a qualified mechanic.

  • i'm reluctant to use acetone on the carbon seat post to remove the Deda logos. has anyone else done this?

  • I think acetone is fine as most manufacturers recommend to use it on tubular carbon rims to get rid of the glue .. and there is always sharpie

  • What Amey said. There's plenty of examples of it being used on carbon (TM removing stem logo's). I was worried about removing the lacquer on some forks, but as far as I was informed, it's made of far hardier stuff and doesn't react to the Acetone. Worked fine.
I'm not a fan of logo's or stickers, so I use it on everything.

  • 1 Million dollars and you only get BB7's?

  • New wheels.
They're nice and light. Knesis crosslight cx v3's

  • Nice. What are you doing cranks wise? I've got a set of 6750 cranks arms but trying to source cheapish 48t rings is proving tough. Probably going to run 36/34 on the inner ring, which seem to be cheap.

  • Yep, mines very similar i think its the ultegra sl compact. maybe 6650? not quite sure.
i think i'll have to increase the range at the back at some point but can't really afford it at the moment.

  • lurv pasela TG

  • or just get the Sora 3500 crank in either 46/34 or 50/34.

  • yep, if i didn't already have all the drivetrain bits, i'd definitely build on the cheap!

  • I haven't had much time over the last week to do much more but it's getting there.

There's lots of things not right still; It's too long so I need a shorter stem.
I found an old pair of chromoplastics in the shed and have put them on with some gentle fettling, mainly because I can't afford anything else at the moment. I think i've seen some other mudguards I like but I'm not quite convinced, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
The pedals aren't staying on there either. they're from something else. My trusty old XT SPDs will go on at some point.
Also the Ultegra levers foul the rack bag (predictably) and while i'll make do for now I think i'll change those in a few months. and yet again, I'm not sure what to go for.

  • Looking really nice.

I reckon you can afford to wait till you can get some mudguard that you'll like the look of, especially as it's summer right now.

Can't go wrong with Chromoplastics, would recommend a bigger front mudflap to stop your feet/drivetrain from getting too wet.

  • Sks Longboards are cheap and will provide good coverage. I got some Gilles Berthoud for mine (650B) but I have yet to fit them.

  • BTW put some loctite on the drop-out screws. I had a lot of issues with wheel alignement and therefore gear set-up.

Thanks! I was thinking of some of the steel ones like on your oak. but as you say, it can wait till after the summer.

    Good idea, thanks.

  • I just rode my first straggler commute. It still needs some adjustment. But it's very nice to ride.
It's a very smooth and it's geometry definitely encourages a more relaxed ride compared to the SLX Van Tuyl.
I'm going to see how I get on with the setup for a little while but I think a 90mm stem would be better for me, with more rise so that I can trim some more of the worlds heaviest steerer tube!

Is that a 54? My cross check is 56 and Scoble has put doubt in my mind about whether I need a 54. I have a 55/56 top tube on my other bikes. Hopefully the stretch won't seem so bad when I have a pannier on rather than a bag.

  • (Looks lovely by the way. I did my first commute on my cross check the other day and, although it's harder in the wind, it certainly felt like less effort compared to my Pennine at 19/20mph over 10 miles.)

  • That looks lovely! what are your mudguards? I thought you had some bikepacking rear seat bag thing but it's a hay bail in the field!
