  • Buy cheap, buy twice.

I'll see how they go and file the pins down if need be. Might be able to file them in such a way they hang on to the circlip. If they don't work, there's a better looking bergen set on amaz I might get instead.

  • True. To be fair I originally bought the circlip pliers to fix some door handles and they worked a treat for that.

  • I can use them to stab into the tyres/eyeballs of the next dangerous arsehole that tries to drive into me. #everythinghasdualfunction

  • Might start carrying mine for that very purpose. With the extra tips and how poorly the tips stay on you can do it to at least 4 drivers too.

I've done my bearings today including needle bearing swap. Used tweezers to get the circlip out, first one came out really easily, second one took a while.

Bastard bit was the tiny retaining wire ring on the needle bearing. First one took ages, caused much rage. Ended up sticking the pedal body in a vice and using the tiniest screwdriver I own. Had to wedge it under and then snap it up. Second one was easy. Both pedals feel better now, but I think 3.6nm is a little too much. Pumped full of grease with cheapo grease gun and lithium grease.

Hopefully that'll resolve the clicking. If not, I'm not sure what I'll do?

  • I filed the pins down and they worked better but only well enough that the circlip came out bent. Replacements in the bearing kit so no drama. The other side's retaining clip won't come out so going to look for proper metal pick set and try again.

  • Good luck! Those little retaining wire ring things made me swear a lot. I got a tiny flathead screwdriver just under the end of the wire when it was on the shallow side of the pedal and managed to lever it up (on about the 100th try).

Not sure if I mentioned, but they're clicking even more since the bearing swap. Enraging.

  • No, have them on a couple of bikes. seem to be discounted and getting harder to find parts though

  • That method is exactly what I've been doing. 1mm flathead, spin the wire around to shallow side, push the screwdriver under it and ping it off. Takes me about 5 seconds to do each one now. The circlip is now trickier because with my missus to put something under it, those pliers just squeeze it but they're not small enough pins to hook it and drag it out. If I had a bench vice I'd be able to do it myself.

  • I used a pair of tweezers to get the circlips off. Think they were a 4 pack from Poundland, they're the ones that go the opposite way, so you squeeze to widen the gap.

With regards to my clicking, I'm now thinking it might be poor finishing on the J&L spindles pedal thread bit where it meets the face of the crank arm. I've cleaned crank and spindle threads and greased the threads and that face to the max. Hopefully will sort it.

  • "What you are describing sounds to me like either wear on the axle at the bearing race or wear in the body where the bearing presses in. You will either need a new Axle or a new Body Kit. Whichever is the culprit. Cross your fingers & hope it’s not both. "

  • Does anyone have a speedplay grease gun for sellz ?

  • I bought a doughnut filler syringe. Tried to do it with that.

    🤷🏻‍♂️

  • A couple of rides and the left walkable cleat cover on my zero pedal lost somewhere around redhill station last weekend, I'm cursing because the covers are not sold individually and list price for replacement is not cheap.

The old x pedals with no covers, just lasted five years of commuting with little maintenance..

Still I love the free float and easy clip in..

  • I have a feeling I have right ones only but remind me and I'll have a look at my spares.

  • Not tried them, and I think they’re for the old style cleat, but I found these a while ago.

  • I tried those covers and lost them in minutes, frustrating but managed to get a refund. Speedplay zeros.

  • I've had those covers on since I got speedplays a few months ago. Not had them fall off or had any issues with them. Think I got a set from ebay for about a fiver and a set from aliexpress for about £1.50, exact same thing.

  • I’ve had walkable cleats for months with no issues 🤞 maybe they have to be fitted by Scherrit.

  • The ones off ebay or the proper ones?

  • Came with the pedals. Legit.

  • Oh, they're different. These are third-party KeepOnKovers and copies of Keep On Kovers.

  • Okay thanks Hippy I'm going to buy the cheap black walkable covers from eBay.. I’m not a walker it's not on my commutes, but the occasional climb the stairs, at the cafe, at the lights.
    No RLJ no trackstanding.

  • These first version aren’t great, but I think the v3 is much better, granted it will cost £18ish
