  • When are the cool aero speedplays out?
How horribly expensive will they be?

  • They just seem to be made of softer material than the cafe covers. I suppose I do a fair bit of clopping about at the track.

  • Oh and thanks @scherrit ..

  • Anyone want some cafe covers? I have a spare pair kicking around.

  • How much harder are Track Speedplays to unclip than regular Speedplays? I've just bought some for my tark burk and am now faintly worried that I'm going to have to cling on to railings at the end of a ride to get my feet out.

  • Ask @HoKe

  • Spring was tighter on mine but as long as they are adjusted fine they will be ok.

  • I'll probably just end up buying some keep on kovers anyway but having baulked slightly at the price, just wondering has anyone had success making a ghetto pair with the cafe stops or even this method?

  • they're not too much - http://www.comtat.co.uk/products/642.htm

you can collect from comtat if you call them up to double check they're open

  • Cheers @dan

@Mechamorgan as stated above they're initially a little tough to get in and out first but it will come second nature to clipping with the correct force.

  • @konastab01 & @HoKe

    thanks guys!

  • Zero Stainless pedals currently £90 on Wiggle

  • I'm tempted to move to speedplay. I think my joints will thank me as my rides get longer. But I hate the idea of adaptors.

So I'd want New shoes too.

    This is all horribly expensive.

  • The "adapters" are fine imo - the only reason for the specific 4 bolt soles is to slightly lower the stack height further.

If you don't need it then I wouldn't bother. The 3-4 bolt adapters are actually more adjustable, especially if combined with the fore-aft adapter, you can get the cleats much further back (semi-midfoot) on some shoes.

That said - I do like my Ergo 3 SPs.....

  • Don't listen to @danb SF, you need specific shoes.

AS IT HAPPENS I have some Speedplay specific Sidi's for sale. 43, and yours shipped for £100 down from £350 RRP :)

  • Interesting. I'm running my current cleats slammed back. Its worked out really well.

  • I'm riding some of Your 'hand me Downs' already.

Why didnt you buy the same size bonts in fluoro 4 bolts Mount glory?

    FFS!

  • Even with adapters speedplays have the lowest stack so why restrict yourself?

  • Not lower than my keywin.

    Not lighter either.

But its a good point. My current shoes have loads of life in them.

  • Have a look on US ebay, loads of new Sidi Genius 6.somethings speedplay specifics for £130ish

  • exactly! so you know they fit fine...

  • You don't need speedplay specific shoes FFS

  • OK OK.

Im going to look into this better. Maybe score some heavily used speed plays off eBay for a test.

  • The pedals tend to command a decent resale value, because you can't buy them alone, and buying second hand cleats is a mugs game.

The stainless Zeros for £90 posted upthread are a really good buy.

  • I'm yet to wear out mine and I'm pretty sure I do enough riding.

It's the walking that's the problem. Walking >>>
