  • Seems a little new to need that

  • Assuming it's similar to this, is it the blue lever that's somehow moving?

  • I find I hit the leaver by accident when grabbing the water bottle

But yeah different shock, mine has a monarch

  • Tried a bit of the SDW on a gravel bike today. Went roughly like this:

Fun! Ouch! Fun! Shit unclip unclip this is too steep! Ouch! Ice cream van!

40mm tyres do not provide enough suspension or grip for my level of bike handling skills.

  • I find I hit the leaver

    Brexit thread >>>>

  • I keep one in my bag

  • Yarp, your image is of exactly the same shock that I have.

  • And yes, blue lever is in the “medium” position in your image.

  • Any chance that little grub screw could be tightened a tiny bit?

Depending on what it's tightening against, of course.

  • A flat on a control rod probably.

@Dammit does yours have the open adjust dial?

  • The red knurled dial under the blue lever? Yes, if so.

  • Nah that’s rebound

Some of them have a third control that lets you tinker with compression when in the open setting

  • I’ve just had a play with it, there are definite detentes for firm and medium, but not for open, and it’s open that it jumps out of.

I’ll call the shop on Monday, but don’t hold out a great deal of hope for a decent outcome. Are shocks expensive?

  • Fox will warranty it independently id imagine so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

  • I imagine I’ll have to deal with everyone involved shirking their responsibility first- Paul’s cycles say it’s not them, CSG washing their hands of it, and then being passed to Fox.

  • Pop in to Look Mum and ask mario if there’s a quick fix.

Hit up fox UK and ask them too

Might be a straightforward thing, might need a rebuild or a new shock.

  • Mario is in Southampton today according to his IG. I’ll pop in during the week

  • I spoke to Pauls Cycles, they said that they'd never heard of a Fox shock having this problem, and could I please send them some pictures of my shock to state the warranty process.

  • never heard of a Fox shock having this problem

Takes less than a minute with google to discover, although much of what I found was with older Fox shocks.

  • Yes, I thought that was odd.

  • Here's thew worlds most thrilling video - you'll need to turn the sound on for it to make sense:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVcgHPPY5WQ

Clue: total lack of sound when lever tail is pointed to the right, which is the open position that it jumps out of, i.e. there's no centring action/detente that holds it in place, and indeed the lever itself is subject to an internal force that swings it so that the tail is pointed to the left (as you look at the shock body at the same angle you do in the clip).

  • My Fox on my Spearfish is the same. Positive detente to trail and climb but not too or from descend. However it doesn't move away from descend ever

  • pictures of my shock

Depends on whether you can ham it up for the camera, I guess, the moment having long gone.

  • double post

  • Hmm, interesting - thanks for the info. If mine stayed where it was put then I'd care not for a detente.
