  • thank you for not building another boring full njs bike!

    You are more than welcome!

You know I got first dibs right?

    Stonking!

Noted. Now buy my Wound Ups ;)

Oh a clamp on brake! Sorry, I thought you hadn't finished that sentence.

Jk. Sorry, missed that part. I think they look purposeful, but each to their own. Carry on.

Exactly that, there's arguments for and against. I just don't like the look of them and I'm sure with decent pads they are more than ok for pooling around town on. I'm not for any minute going to be descending the Alps on this.

Update: My Chris King headset arrived yesterday from the US so I've dropped this at the LBS for this to be installed and forks cut.

Should hopefully have this back by the end of the week!

Ordered some Soma Highway One bars and tape from SJS. Just need to think about the levers now.

Can anyone explain what the difference is between:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SRAM-S500-Alloy-Brake-Levers-Drop-Bars-Black-/360915297155?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item54083a6383

    and

Apart from obviously the material make-up of the levers. Do the S900's have a sprung lever action?

  • No, they don't. Material is the only difference.

  • Fark, this looks ace

  • good to see a forum chainring is being put to good use. :)

go for the 900s :) carbon to match the forks and seatpost... (you need a carbon stem)

also, the spring action can be fixed in a number of ways ranging from leccy tape to biro springs

  • This looks good. Which model King will you use for the Mizunos?

  • err...1" threadless?

  • Right.

I'm just wondering what would need to be swapped between forks. If you have a gripnut aswell then just to top cup.

Aha! Yes. I've read about the Niro spring method, just wasn't sure if the extra £40 premium meant the 900's had this.

I'll have a think! Then again DA7710 cranks for around town should make it easy to justify!

Miro_o yep 1inch king thread less non-sotto voce version. I think you would need a different top cup too if converting. Although I'm not 100% sure.

  • Sick, sick, siiiiiiicccccckkkkkk

I love Samson, it was my initial choice before I found the Nagasawa - I sent tens of emails to Gabe who was always very helpful and provided me with hundreds of pictures of all the frames I was swooning over....

You've done this so right looking for practicality - that was my downfall :(

  • Miro I'm going to be converting a threadless to 2nut soon (if anyone knows who sells the conversion kits in the UK, please tell) and as far as I can work out, the cups stay the same

  • Such a nice frame....proper, bloody nice. Look forward to seeing it built up.

I've just acquired a wonderfully ratty, near full njs build (rims/spokes/tyres excluded) it's nice and nearly practical as is, but definitely getting a shove this way, if I can make it fit.

The Dura Ace 7400 aero brake levers are nice to use and have good springs in them, but the campag are a little nicer if you can hold out for a pair. They come and go so damn quick second hand tho. I have a spare lever, for errr spares for mine, if by chance you see a single I'll send it your way.

Yeah same apart from the dustcover is replaced by the adjustable race and top nut.
I have a spare threaded top pieces from when i converted the other way.
    PM me if interested Blake.

What size? You're quite tall aren't you?

  • This thread makes me want njs more and more... Need cash...

  • ^^ i want to see it too ben. but not in here, let fahrgestell have it revolving about samson...

Cheers, mate. A fellow forumunger gave me a link to some new an online shop that sells NOS Campag Record Levers, I am uber tempted to go for these.

Send us a pic of the naga!!!!!!

  • They are great levers. I'd be interested to know if more are available and at what price, don't tend to see them for less than £110 here new.
The only issue is the lack of return spring, as you know. I personally resolved this with the neat little j-tech 2:1, which works well and looks a little less intrusive than the problem solver. Expensive...for what it is.
Hed also produce the exact same part for their "third brake lever" system, so might be worth looking on tt forums, as a possible cheaper option.

  • ^PIC-TURES! PIC-TURES! PIC-TURES!

What is this J-Tech 2:1 you speak of?

Picked the frame up from the LBS last night. New forks, headset and BB fitted.

    Might post pictures tonight ;-P

  • This is the Hed version (picture with 3rd brake lever), one of which I found on eBay for a couple quid.

The j-tek is identical, can't remember where I picked it up now but do recall it costing circa £40 new...

    here

  • There are a few frames on NJS at the moment that will fit me... must resist! Ha ha

Trust! I've been lusting over a specific one since it came up for sale this month and think I might have to pop the NJS cherry sooon.

The balance of black/silver will be great once built up.. I can feel it.

Thanks for this b'jammin, I'll keep a look out on eBay for this.

Small update, picked up the frame from the LBS during the week:

Whacked the mini-SLR out so a few more detail shots, really am in love with this:

  • Awesome! Although I'm not a big fan of the stem, a X2 would suit it a lot better imo.

  • Also go the BB swapped out so I can run the 7710 cranks:

Now wheels, I want to keep this practical as possible.....but I am so tempted to go for Carbon rims.

I tip the scales at around 90kgs so not sure 1.) how practical this would be and 2.) if it would look any good?

Comments welcomed. If not I'll just go for tb14's....
