  • although we are similar in height; you ARE a different person

a grand on paintjob on supersix evo money = parlee/craddock money?

  • Once you get in to those kind of prices it may be worth starting a fund for a custom frame that covers all your geometry requirements and comes with the paint of your choice. In the meantime enjoy riding the SSE.

Are Armourtex up to prepping and painting carbon frames? I thought they baked or dipped the existing paint off frames depending on material? Its been a few years since I sent anything to them.

£300 for paint, £120 to strip and £25 to fit decals from Armourtex, and that's just for matte black.

It makes me think that if you're going to spend ~£400 on paint, you might as well spend a grand and go fucking insane with it.

  • Id keep it as it is, its really not as bad as you think!

No, and spread out over time which means it's not as much of a sting. I was lucky to purchase my S6 when I worked for Kinoko, so it wasn't that pricey.

While I agree with you that starting a fund for something serious is probably a good idea, it's going to be a long old wait to get something that's anywhere near as good as this bike. While I would love a custom carbon bike, it's not absolutely necessary just to because I want to eliminate a few spacers and level out the top-tube.

I would have to go Parlee / Craddock / Argonaut (maybe) or WyndyMilla to get something of comparable quality. However, I think the kind of paint job I want (ridiculous) is going to cost me whatever frame it goes on, and considering I've got the Supersix now, I might as well.

I'm asking Armourtex how that strip frames at the moment.

    Really is.

    Hand sanding (✖╭╮✖)

  • its garish but its no worse than most of the roadies you see out daily

I wish to signal my superiority to the average cyclist through the medium of paint, why are you holding me back from this?

  • cos £400+ on paint makes my face hurt

  • Sorry, forgot to update my hierarchy

    Looks > Fitness > Fit > Aerodynamics > Weight

  • Training for bike porn comes first, shoulda thought that through

  • Or put the grand towards a frame with a colour scheme you do like?

  • A good paint-scheme would be ~£300, if you start with a clean sheet design then that gives you £700 to spend on the frame itself, rather than fucking about stripping the existing paint off the Evo.

  • I'm not buying a new frame guys, sorry. No other bikes are going to fit any better, and I can't afford custom at a comparable level.

  • Hand sanding (✖╭╮✖)

Or just leave it once sanded. Instant weight saving.

  • Maybe try it yourself? The worst that happens- you fuck it up and you pay someone to sort it out.

To be perfectly honest, I would rather have a professional do it. I have neither the time, facilities or elbow-grease required.

    fuck that

  • Colourtech who do Roberts paint i think.

  • Robadob would probably hand sand it for you, he's developed a taste for it I think

Seem to remember Stephen from Fibrelyte talking about this guy on the fairwheels bikes forum as doing all the repainting work on carbon frame repairs that Fibrelyte have done.

  • Got no complaints with the cost of such high quality work, just got a big problem paying for it!

Id keep it as it is, its really not as bad as you think!

This all day. Just keep it as it is and ride it.

This is a really good idea. If you can't be asrsed yourself what about paying a student to do it?

  • When they say 'strip' I think they probably mean rough up the existing paint/lacquer for the new paint to adhere to. I don't know many paint shops that'll be prepared to sand anywhere near deep enough to remove all the paint right down to the carbon (too risky). If you're a weight weenie then it'll be the weight of pretty much x2 paint jobs.
