  • Ow ouch :(

Its otherwise not bothering you I hope?

I've seen silver glitter handlebar tape...maybe there's bling risers.

  • two parcels arrived today, one from Japan and one from interstate

    Sugino Aero Mighty 48t

new Flite for half price...nice, very nice.

just had to fit the chainring for a look

the pieces are falling into place, but there are some missing.

pedals...what to use?...I would like a set of Royal Nuevo, but what are my options?...and the seatpost...I have a spare Thomson, but would really like a Nitto or Sugino.

Still awaiting another package from Japan..Track Supermarket goodness ;)

  • I've seen used NJS Nitto on e-bay.co.uk for £50 mark. Kinoki cycles has sale on, may be worth a look too?

  • How much do Sugino mighty seat posts go for in the UK. There are a chain of used bike shops here in japan cycly.co.jp and njs parts are cheap seat posts and jaguar stems are usually about ¥2-¥3000. I can buy a wheelset, 7600 hubs with Araya gold tubular rims with tubular tyres glued on for around ¥12,000. Not sure if the profits are there to start exporting though. I am sure NJS exports has his supply channels locked down.

  • Suntour superbe pro pedals and a Suntour superbe pro seatpost to match the cranks would look ace and they not that expensive on bay.

The trick is to avoid the import fee on bigger parts..there's well priced njs frames on e-bay but you're bound to get stung by import fee + very expensive shipping.

A seatpost may fly under the radar though...mark it as the max legal import value and if it's used they may well go "meh" on import if HMRC does a spot check. Wheels I'd say is more tricky.

thanks for the heads up, I had been checking out both 8pilgrim8 and philthe power_taylor for superbe pro, but my search was not set to worldwide...now an abundance of goodness has appeared

  • Glad to help, looking forward to what you decide on...

I've ordered lots of stuff off pilgrim and phil in the past and always been happy. Also ask them to help you out with the custom charges and import taxes.

  • Frame is pure hot sex.

They've a pink Giro with rust that's been crying out to be saved to me. But with all the VAT and costs to kill rust, no not worth it.

Did you ever get a frame from them and managed to avoid customs/import fees?

  • ^ Never always a little charge, around 10% of the price usually.

  • Tx :)

HMRC site states the full 20% VAT whack + handling fee.

  • As said, the frame is ball tinglingly good

It's always worse when it's in my size as well (why doe?)

  • I understand the Miche hatred, but the wheels will get it on the road until finances allow a better set...budget be tight yo!

I think what ruined my NJS dream (apart from almost bankrupting myself) was my choice of initial wheel set. It basically meant I was scared to ride the thing on £700 worth of wheel and tyre on the streets, any day of the week, let alone Sunday.

I wish I'd listened to the LFGSS faithful who said "get a set of da-openpro clincher so you can actually ride it"

The miche-condom are absolutely fine for getting this awesome looking frame on the road - use them for every day bombing around NJS fixie skidding. Later down the line get yourself a nice set of DA - Open Pro / Araya 540 clincher or something similar to really finish it off.

Pilgrim will always sort you out, normally knocks a good 10-20% off the price if you pop him an email and deal with him away from ebay - never paid a penny of import related additions when buying stuff from him and spent hundreds with him.

  • the latest arrivals...

I'm really impressed with the service from Track Supermarket...ordered on the 4th, delivered on the 11th, so basically 5 days from shop to shipped :)

nitto b260aa risers, pearl 9, stainless chain and some 4mm champs.

I've also ordered pedals through 8pilgrim8, and some clips and seatpost through phil_the_power_taylor (who were both really helpful) and should be here early next week.

  • +1 for track supermarket. Ordered stuff on the 1st, got them on the 4th.
    No customs charge either.

  • the penultimate delivery arrived today, taking just 5 days from Japan

nitto post, suntour superbe pro pedals and MKS clips

just waiting on the MKS straps to arrive, but should be built on Wednesday...work allowing

  • today was a good day, progress wise, and went from this

    to this

with minor adjustments (and better pics) to come.
still waiting on the straps to arrive, and I'm thinking that black tyres would look better.
had a cursory ride on the rollers to check out *smoothnosity*™ and *quietnitude*™...happy.

  • Love that Flite!

Looks like a good fit too!

  • Looking good!

I agree with getting black, will work better.

  • That cranks/chainring combo looks great on the frame!

  • Looks fookin' ream!

Personally I love a Flite but not on Japanese keirin bikes. Plus I'd think about keeping the tyres or getting some more conventional looking gumwalls. Up to you though of course! Will you be running a brake?

  • Looks fookin' ream!
