I've somewhat rashly gone out and bought one of these frames after seeing this thread.
Damn you! Looking lovely though.

^Ha! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Any pics?
^^ am hoping to stray slightly from the christmas tree theme as the build progresses.

Phwoaar. That's great!

I'm not gonna do a CP topic. Will update the classic Cannondale thread though.

I love older CAAD frames, they look fast and clean and when you see one it un mistakable to what it is. Cantilever rear dropouts I don't love as much though. I love the paint choice though.

^^ looks great doppelkorn, congrats on your purchase
^ thanksWhile waiting for the final clear coating before I can pick the frame up next week, I pulled the trigger on these. I admit it, it's their snazzy advertising that cinched the deal.
Just to add insult to injury to those of you wishing to see a period correct build ;-)

The holiday period?

Lolz!

While waiting I thought I'd clean up the workshop to ensure a quick and painless build next weekend. Instead I started building a truing stand out of bits of wood I found while sorting things in different heaps. Need to get some bolts and nuts to use as indicators, but otherwise this is made completely from stuff I found at home.

Looks good thus far, will keep an eye on the build as I too am currently doing similar to my (albeit newer) Saeco CAAD7 (deep carbon, modern components etc)
Colour pops off nicely following your respray

Now I have to wait until saturday to build it up, otherwise I'll risk fucking up the clear coat apparently. Gnnnhhh!

that looks rad! if mine ends up looking half as good ill be stoked!

^^ yeah things have happened to it since you last saw it!
Well, bike's basically finished this weekend, will update with pics tomorrow. In the meantime I'd like to state for the record that fizik microtex is a shit product that I'll never use again. At least not the s&m latex looking monstrosity I got for this build in what must have been a moment of total insanity.

Hey Russ where did you get your decals?
-

Ebay. Search for 'cannondale decals'.

I know the man's work well!
Cheers. Have bought the decals.

Right, some 'work in progress' pics and some 'almost finished' pics.
Home made headset press, fsa headset stealth points added with black marker. Why are all logos laser etched these days, irritating.
Zipp SL70 ergo bars, like the feel but I know classic bend looks better. Cheap PX 100 mm 17 degree stem until I'm set on length. I'll get a thomson later.
17 cms weighs 86 grams apparently.
This bit always makes me nervous.
This looks quite good I thought. But using a shimmed stem and a 1" spacer on top (or just the top cap for that matter) means the shim jams up against the spacer and you can't adjust the headset properly. I ended up using a 1 1/8" spacer and top cap above the stem which works but looks a bit funny. Any suggestions? Was thinking I might chop a couple of mms off the shim with a dremel but will wait until I have the thomson stem to see if it's really necessary.
Well, here is v 1.0 for your viewing pleasure. Any suggestions appreciated. I need to adjust saddle angle and move it back a little bit, might have to lose the inline post but we'll see. As I wrote earlier, I think the shiny bar tape looks shit and it was a PITA to use so will be replacing that soonish. Bars will be angled down slightly. The derailleur cable housing needs shortening and the 5 mm spacer under stem needs to go ideally but need to test ride first. New crabon wheels will go on when they arrive and have gotten some 25 mm grand prix classics to go with them.

Looks great! Except for the tape. But you said you're replacing that.
Love the colour.

Looks ace. Those tyres should really set it off though.

Thanks. Took it for a spin today and it rides very well. Impressed by the SRAM stuff too, everything clicking and squeezing and sliding to and fro in satisfactory ways.
Looks very... seasonal.
