So the future proofing part of this was going to be rebuilding the front wheel with an SP dynamo hub, however Charlie can't get stock for a month which isn't an option for me. I could get the upgraded version with an on/off switch but that's £159 rather than £95.
I'm not sure what to do at this stage - for £159 we are entering Schmidt SON territory so I think I may leave it for now and source the SP hub and rebuild the wheel myself... Or maybe with a little help at least.

32h? He should be able to get silver or red, it's only the black ones that are out of stock if I remember right (had a similar chat with LBS recently). Should be covered in mud at all times anyway so it doesn't really matter...

Exactly my thinking. Charlie said when he rode one he thought it was the ideal bike for so many things...
examples for TM pls....

I must confess, I have little knowledge of future proofing, but whatever if entails, do you reckon it would work on me? ;)

Na I will have black and black only. I might just wait a bit and get a Schmidt instead. Or order the one in Dammit's link...

^ have you tried getting one through exposure lights (USE) ? They use a re-branded VP hub for there dynamo systems

Go for the Schmidt SON 28 Klassik Disc.
The new Schmidt Edelux II have a much wider spread of light than my Supernova E3, which is already quite bright as it is.
Giving it's an "Adventuremobile" designed for the next person who'll buy it, I'd suggest something like the B&M Lumotec IQ2 Luxos, which have extra feature such as automatic light sensor, large cache battery (keep phone charged when standstill), handlebar switch (with USB plug), etc.

As long you don't spill liquid near it, you'll be fine.

And he was trying to sell it?

I'd already told him I was going to buy one from him. We were just having a chat about the bike.
Thanks Ed, I hadn't seen that the B&M had a USB port. I'll go for that light and very possibly the Schmidt, but I am still quite tempted by the SP or a rebranded one...

Paid for the ECR today. No longer having the front wheel rebuilt by Charlie, but I'm heading down to Swanage on Saturday (108 mile drive each way!) to go and collect it and ride it around swanage way all day which should be a blast.
I'm not sure whether I should be using clipless or platforms though. I would rather use clipless but I fear I may have many a clipless fail as I've only ever used clipless on the road.

Just take it easy and you'll be fine with clipless :-)

I stuck clipless on my Karate Monkey for it's first few rides, not a problem after only ever riding road/polo before.
Wouldn't mind a decent set of platforms but for now I'm sticking with this.

Sooooo the distro sent the wrong size. The right size is being delivered tomorrow so fingers crossed it'll still be ready on Saturday, if not I can't get it for another week!

Just ordered Jones bar's for my Troll, though I don't think they will cure my desire for an ECR ....
