  • I'm getting an ECR next week from Charlie the Bikemonger. It's going to be OTP, but Charlie's going to be altering it slightly to make it future proof. This thread is more to document where it takes me, more than anything else. For those of you that aren't familiar with the ECR:

It comes as standard with Jones Loop bars and Microshift thumbies.

    More to follow...

  • Such sensible.

  • Much slow

  • Looks good, interested to hear how he's futureproofing it...

Really want to get my hands on some of those Jones bars too, but don't want to pay full price for them!

  • Is the ECR a kind of Fat Ogre?

  • 29+

^^ Exactly. €150,- rpp in the EU when the rrp is $120,- in 'Murica, for alu handlebars?

  • Replace BB7 with full hydro or TRP Spyre.

More than perfect for the Great Divide, basically a budget version of Scott's English without the folding malarky.

  • Why replace BB7? Easy to maintain, easy to source spare parts, work fine in the majority of conditions...

  • Single piston design can be a flaff to set up.

I loved my BB7, but it would be great not to adjust the pads on the static side to compensate when it start to wear in a bit.

It's really not as exciting as it sounds. The bars are great though, such comfort.

  • I'll keep the bb7s for now. Easy to repair everything was the main reason I didn't bother building one up from scratch.

    Have you ridden them?

I like having to do that occasionally. It's the only time I bother to notice how worn the brake pads are :-)

  • Have you ridden them?

    I have, on a trollolololol.

    Only one way.

  • Oh, yes..... Love em.
I'm seriously thinking about selling my transition 29 frame and fork and putting the bits on one of these.....it looks like it could be the ultimate 'do anything' bike.....

  • Exactly my thinking. Charlie said when he rode one he thought it was the ideal bike for so many things...

  • Get 35mm rims for increased versatility. Unless you'll never run anything smaller than 2.4" ofcourse.

  • If I wanted normal tyres I'd have gone for an Ogre! 3" knards <<<<<<<<<

  • Spot on....2 sets of wheels, one with the knards, and one lightweight set with some 2.0/2.2's.....what does the complete bike weigh in at? I've got a mental block about nothing over 30lb's .....light rims help a lot though.

  • That rims have been drilled, thought 700g is still pretty porky.

ZTR Flow which is billed as a downhill rims come out at 545g.

  • I has been being tempted by these as a cheap alternative to Joneseseses

  • `i used to have a Titec H-bar as I couldn't afford the John which work just as well, they don't make them anymore I think, they came in both rise and flat mode;

  • I've also been looking for them, ebay etc but they hardly ever turn up.
