If you did managed to strip the thread, that's not a problem as you can always do it the old fashion way with a simple nut and bolt instead.

I'm still pleasantly surprised with Sora and have dropped any idea of replacing it.
To be fair, Sora work, it's not the crispiest shift, nor the lightest action, the only thing that bug me most about the shifter itself is the design and long throw of the upshift.
By the way, you can effectively mix and match any Shimano part from 8 to 10 speed, as they all work (same cable pull).

That's a blindingly obvious and simple solution. Spa emailed back saying to take it to my LBS.

Just bunging this pic up as it's nearly finished in its original build state(!). I'm so lazy. If it'll ride I just leave it. E.g. I've not properly fettled the guards or cut the stays.
That's the most flattering angle for the messed-up cockpit. Got compact black Deda bars, cork tape and 105 drivetrain waiting for a summer rebuild.

V2. New cockpit, group and mudguards. Really liking the 105 hoods but front shifting is still messy as hell. Shall test it out on the Old Roads and Drive Roads audax on Sunday. Guards are still in fettling mode, hence the uncut stays.

Super old thread, sorry.. does anyone have photos of these in a 58? Maybe this one is a 58?

It's a 58. Looks a bit different to that nowadays, but the frame obviously the same.

Cheers. I’m right on the fence between one of these or a Bob Jackson End to End.

The Bob Jackson looks nicer!
You bunch of bodgers get an M5 tap and handle or take to any bike shop to sort it properly. If you really must bodge it, file and cut a standard cap head M5 bolt to act as a tap.
