every once in a while someone will ask about how to keep their second drop brake lever from jiggling when it isn't connected to a brake.
Tester will reply something like "i believe a search for 'biro spring' will put you in the vicinity of the previous conversation". Unfortunately if you do search for that you will get page after page of Tester telling people to search for 'biro spring'.
I found this (not by tester) post that seems to do the best job of explaining that solution for this issue http://www.lfgss.com/post2411047-50687.html Maybe that should be added to the list?

What's in a name? I think they're bloody awful. But this is all a bit OT as this is the Tester Approves rather than Upstart Disapproves thread :)

Really? What don't you like? Mine has been fine, especially for the price.

external bb's ? that might do some off roading

Hope stainless or cheap Shimano and replace a bit more often. Both will probably cost the same in the long run.

I'm tempted to buy one of these and see how long it lasts before exploding into a shower of rubber, cabbage and neutrinos.

Basic seatposts: Kalloy
I think much of the argumentation in this thread would have been avoided if you'd been specific here. Kalloy make a huge range of seatposts, of which some are indeed as nasty as they are cheap. My 'approved' status applies specifically to the SP-248, which is a thing of beauty and a joy forever thanks to Kalloy
paying homage tocopying the Campag C-Record cradle design. As it's available in pretty much every diameter known to man, in 400mm & 300mm lengths, and either silver or black, it is a solution to almost every request for a seatpost to fit whatever frame and colour scheme. If you want something in the common 27.2mm (standard) or 31.6mm (oversize) diameters, there are plenty of options, some of them work just as well and are just as inexpensive. -

Tester, what are you're opinions on bb30 bottom brackets? Got a frame with one coming and am curious, if you've got the time the other types pf30 and bb86 would be good for tester opinions too
-
• #47
The concept of BB30? A self evidently good idea, with the scope (not yet exploited by anybody commercially, afaik) to combine a fat axle with narrow Q. PF30 is a cop out by frame manufacturers who can't be arsed to prepare their BB shell properly, BB86 is a dead end
As for the bearings to stuff into it, take your pick, it's just a standard 6806-2RS industrial cartridge.

Ah that's good news then, thanks :) I'm currently using Shimano cranks so short term using adapters, but in the long term I may get one of these bottom brackets but the idea of turning the cup in the bearing seat worries me?

Meh. If it fits correctly and is lubricated properly, rotating a soft aluminium cup into your bearing seat isn't going to hurt it more than pressing a hard steel outer race into it does.

I remember Tester approved pre cursa's and v sprint or mavic ellipse ( if budget allows ) as entry level track kit.
Will try to pull out the post..
Doesn't this thread need to be tester approved too?
