  • Can u elaborate on ut pista hack?

IIRC the hack/mod consisted of filing off the inner ring support lips.
The inner ring tabs have gone, but that's secondary: the important work is machining the spider to take a 1/8" ring where a 3/32" ring once sat.

Here it is from the horse's mouth (click on the photo for more deets).

  • This thread title has been bugging me all day - what on earth is it about?

Nice looking bike by the by.

  • Ah's a rum un buh'! Reckon as not, yoos not fram arouwnd here?

  • You're just being scilly now.

  • Nope, they really do sound like Sam Gamgee in slo-mo up there. It's the shallow end of the gene pool.

  • Just seen this thread, frame is total win.

  • Not bald though Colin; not bald... :)

  • Race you Jambon? Black vs white?

    #bitracist?

  • Totally winning frame, though the lack of symmetry disturbs me!

  • Good stuff. Though please clean your keyboard. That shit is disgusting.

  • Symmetry? Do you mean the untaped handlebar? That's because I haven't cabled-up yet.

JB, you think my keyboard is disgusting? Imagine what the parts of my flat, that I'm too ashamed to broadcast on the internet are like...

  • Great thread and bike so far, MAX is rad.

  • As are fixed TT bikes, I'm looking forward to seeing it finished!

  • Thanks!

Indra, does yours have a S/N on the BB? Curious as to whether we might be Max-bros...

Had a sit on it and I'll need an in-line seatpost. Not surprising as the TT is the same as my road bike on which I have a 100mm stem, got a 70mm on here.

I'm not too "superman" on the extensions, but I'm right on the front of the saddle.

  • I don't think either of my MAX frames have anything on the BB but I'll have a look later.

  • Axle arrived this morning: swapped out, chain on, cabled up, BLAM!

A surprisingly painless build (apart from trapping the tip of my thumb 'twixt sprocket and chain): particularly, I was expecting the chainline to be a real ballache, but I didn't even have to get the wheel dished.

Only taken it for a short spin, but the first thing that struck me was the lack of wheel/brake rub when I was honking up hill.

Currently running 74gi (the same as my road bike) which will obviously need to be increased; an inline seatpost is at the top of the shopping list, followed by something tasty up front and then a Raltech.

No work tomorrow, so if the weather holds I take it out for a good spanking...

  • Chinese in-line carbon posts can be had for £18.60 off fleabay, they weigh about 200g, mine hasn't exploded yet! I'm running 85.8 at the moment, which will go up to 97.2 for racing.

Looking good, I suppose (fails to conceal wishbone envy).

  • Get an old aero seatpost

  • ^Probably not a Mick Burrows one, though, Burrows is from Norfolk. It's a bit like warring states in the former Yugoslavia, but with less intelligible accents.

  • Looks mean, there's just something about fixed TT bikes.

  • I've gleaned a few pointers from your CP Colin, bars included.

And you're quite right of course: the North folk/South folk divide is an ancient and bitter one...

So Jambon, 'bout time you ditched the cogs no?

  • get a 13t on that bad boy!

  • Mike Burrows

FTFY. At least get it right if you're gonna slag him off.

  • what is the benefit of the "locktite and handtight" method? why not use grease and a tool? not having a go just confused
