  • Hi! I'm new to the forum and wondering if you still do women's rides - either regularly meetings or one offs? I'm on a geared bike so hopefully I won't be unwelcome!!

    Cheers

  • There's talk of one this bank holiday. Not sure where and which day of the 3 day weekend but will try keep you posted.

  • Lovely, cheers Mands. I'm off wild camping (on bike to god knows where) this bank hol but around the Monday so will go with you if you choose that day.

  • Whoops - didn't realise computer wasn't signed in on my log in! Thanks again Mands

  • I'm planning a century somewhere in Kent this Sunday if anyone fancies joining me - I haven't ridden my bike beyond commuting in about a year so it will be slow but I've decided to throw myself into it and see what happens. Won't be able to firm up route until tomorrow but it will probably be in the direction of Tunbridge Wells and back again. Taking gears, leaving early from Catford (ideally 7ish but can make it a bit later if anyone's keen but can't do that early).

  • I'm always up for long rides and especially down south because I don't go that way really. Can't do tomorrow though because Thundertrack!

  • Well done on Thundertrack performance, very impressive! I was hoping to make it down after my ride but was too slow :|

Hoping to do lots more road rides over the next few months so will keep posting in here in case anyone wants to join.

  • holla! we are doing an ice cream ride tomorrow if anyone fancies it! meet at 12:30/45 in soho square.

    more details here - https://www.facebook.com/events/573649209511827/?active_tab=highlights

  • Think I'm doing Margate tomorrow if anyone fancies joining me.

  • Actually having just looked at the train fares I might attempt Whitstable and back instead. I am pretty unfit though so this may go horribly wrong.

Edit: or Canterbury! Somewhere in that general direction, anyway.

  • Just in case anyone else needs inspiration for a ride I ended up doing Herne Bay (and train back) via @pootsmanuva's route from here: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/228047/

Really good route! In my head that bit of Kent is all full of dual carriageways and industrial estates but there were loads of really lovely lanes and vineyards and orchards. And it was flat. Recommended.

(Though not sure I'd recommend the shared use path from Whitstable to Herne Bay on August Bank Holiday. Nice to see lots of families out on bikes though.)

  • Just moved to Shoreditch, anyone free for a ride + a brew this week?

  • This isn't a ride but I'm not sure it warrants a separate thread and I couldn't work out where else to put it. Anyway, Assos are doing a women's night (I'm afraid I have no idea what that means, but apparently there will be prosecco 😐) at LMNH on Monday. Unclear whether the Assos lady will be there or not.

Mild heckling aside, it might be good, and it's always fun to meet other women who like bikes. I don't think I can make it but thought I'd share. http://www.lookmumnohands.com/events/womens-cycling-celebration-with-assos

Edit: that was supposed to be a separate post rather than a reply to @mildew but seeing as it's local I guess it's relevant :) welcome!

  • Hallo. Only just getting back into the forum after years in the non-LFGSS wilderness.

Anyhoo - if anyone down south fancies a 45-50 mile ride out from Crystal Palace into Kent and back one weekend before the weather gets too shite then I'd be happy to lead.

I don't do Garmins but I can point to route on a paper map and show you where I'm taking you... ;-)

  • Sounds like the new Muddy Hell. :)

  • Welcome back, opiumia.

  • Cheers, Oliver!

  • Hi Opiumia, I'd be interested but let me get my 'this might not work' statements up first:

I'm slow - despite doing (and enjoying long distance rides over the years) with speed intervals
I (still) ride a titch bike with 650c wheels
    I'm 4'11 so, of course, I'm slow :-).
I'm old physically. Mentally I'm 30, but my body is slowly winning the argument.
I'm even slower going up hills but nowhere near as bad as when I first started cycling.

    Over to you!

  • Ha! Well, there are options for a coffee stop an route! And ways to shorten the ride depending on legs. I thought I gauge interest though I'm thinking a bright weekend morning in October might be on the cards...

  • A coffee stop is always welcome as is a stop that includes beer. I'll pop in occasionally to see what date in October you choose. I'm already booked for a night ride on 6/7 October.

    Cheers

  • 👍

  • I'm also interested :) @opiumia
