  • Cha as its the only saddles I'm comfy on: No go.

    Brakeless: Nope.

Quill: Can't its ahead. Not only won't anybody thread it here, I'm strongly advised against it by Le Manfriend who had to saw out a stem.

The bars...then it's back to a very short ahead which are fugly.

I can't win. But at least I'm comfy...I can put a clowns nose on it ;)

  • Too bad.

Send the fork to a bikebuilder and replace steerer to a threaded one.

Quill is the way to go.

In the meantime, clown nose it is. ;)

  • errr, ahead to quill is the way into ancient history..

its not a looker per se, but its come a long way and been an adventure. enjoy!
still think bassie wouldve been a more appropiate name..

  • Haha! :D

Cheesus I swapped the saddle, stem no pleasing people lol. At least my next build is quill!

  • Bars down, levers up a bit. Would already make it look a bit cleaner.

  • Thread made me happy then sad then happy again

  • Well, would you good people like to see a Balk (Merckx) track thread? With a rad/ugly (as appropriate) paintjob and chrome?

It came with Miche (I can head the OWGODNOOO now) but I don't have cash for full C-record Pista... £200 max to do him up.

I promise to take the ugly saddle/clamp on brake off for pics ;)

  • Black or gumwall tyres, some second hand Record pista cranks (or sg75 or DA7600, at least something decent). Soma HW1's and black bar tape, done. Also quite possibly under 200 pounds.

  • Nitto B105 OK too? I have them at home.

Any seatpost recommendations? I was thinking Campagnolo Chorus, but I probably need setback, not sure any aero style seatpost has it...

Was thinking chromed headset too, not a fan of the 'shroom but it's still functional.

  • ^^ so much better. Compacts on and slam stem a bit more. Also, gumwall tyres would set that off proper.

Record Pista cranks and a smaller toothcount chainring.

    47x18 for a commuter gearing.

No brakes on this, learn how to skid instead. :)

  • I Indra'd my tooth and upper lip skidding on a wet manhole cover, of course strategically places in primary position...that skidding thing, I ain't a fan :P

But no hoods on this! Top lever brake...I rarely brake anyway, but it saved my bacon 3 times now :/

  • Sell miche buy second hand da7600? Nice frame deserves so much more.

  • Alternatively, polish Miche to a mirror finish to match the chrome. Takes hours and hours, but well worth the effort and is free! See 'cannibal Dolan' in ancient CP for pics.

  • http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/222116/ ? Looks good hope you enjoy cycling it still!

Ah polishing...work that either drives you sane, or drives you insane. The hours and hours may be an issue for me though... :)

  • Right...having had a look at Sugino 75, it may be an issue as the Merckx is 99% likely Italian threaded. To make things easy ;)

A 109 width BB ISO square taper is rare as hen's teeth it seems. Dura Ace seems to be all English threaded too.

    Any tips? :)

  • If you're using 75's/DA cranks etc, use a 111mm Campagnolo Centaur bb. ISO, 111mm and ITA/BSA thread. People use this with 75's/DA/... cranks, me previously included and it's fine, also sealed which is a bonus. Sugino have recommended it when asked.

Alternatively, and for more £, Phil Wood sells 110.5mm ISO BB's with a range of mounting cups for various threads, Italian included.

Am sure there are other options but these are probably your best bet.

  • Happy days, thank you ^_^

Wasn't sure if Sugs would be a good option, as people say The Balk (actually a Merck Cromor) deserves nice bits. But seems it's OK to go for them :)

  • Sugino are rad, this deserves nothing less :P

You can probably use the miche BB if you need to but we've use campag centaur no problem in Italian threaded frames before.

  • Happy days, that's even better. It feels a big grotty, but as my dad said say "Meh, yeah, so what, no play in it, ride until it dies".

    #dutchdads

Going to whip on a chrome headset too, my old Record one should fit. Alu breaks up the nice chrome fork line. (looksoverfunction there)

  • Suginos on order...yeooo.

I was thinking SP72 seatpost and a Pearl or Jaguar stem.

  • A pair of Sugino Grand Mighty's arrived.

It's difficult to find a used SP72 in 44 that won't result in custom charges :/ If you see any (or think another seatpost looks better) let me know!

  • Nitto 65?

My vote would be pearl because small jags tend to look quite cramped imo.

  • Tx, OK! They're nice too. See what I can find.

This frame is 1.5 cm shorter than Gazelle, so with the sanding down the Deda to silver I can put on a 10 cm stem, so will have a look around for a Pearl.

I have Nitto in 25.4 but the 10 cm reach would mean a 7 cm stem which are very hardto get/short+stumpy , so going down that route again as the Soma in silver in 38 are still sold out :/

  • What is happening to the gazelle? I quite happily take that off your hands...
