thanks, but if I don't go for v brakes, I'll either get the SRAM S500 or STIs.
-
• #303
I don't think Microshift do SRAM, could be wrong.
you're part right, part wrong.
With friction it doesn't matter, with indexed it does.

Can't find the Tektros in all black though (except on Google Images)....
Condor have them but with Condor branding! I have them on my roller and my CC, they were £20 a pair.
-
• #305
There are two different version, that and the v-brakes.
Sure Condor is the v-brake version?

Rose Bikes have the elusive black XT in stock
Can't find the Tektros in all black though (except on Google Images)....
how about cane creek? they might be more expensive, but probably easier to find.

I really rate cantis, I'v hurtled down Jerningham Road in the pissing rain many times and my cantis always work much better than the sram rival callipers on my road bike. I've also screamed down alpine roads, overloaded, and the cantis performed excellently then as well.
I know that doesn't answer your question but cantis are bloody good.
Having met you and Apollo both I'd peg you at maybe half his weight though- and that bike isn't going to be light either.

They must stock both the 520s and the 340s in black. I have calipers on roller, and v-brake on cross check. So I must have said for what kind of brakes I wanted levers for. My pair of 340s are almost 3 years old. Condor ship those levers on most of their own bikes.

I'd go for mini-v's if I were you, put them on my Caadx and the difference in breaking between them and the cantis that came on there is a revelation, and that's with the cheapest Tektro ones.

what am I getting into
-
• #311
V brakes it is.
Found these cheaper than Rose Bikes, and Madison only import the silver colour now anyway so I pulled the trigger.

Finally :-)

Surely requires trp cx 9s :)

not v brake pull ....

• #317
I found the feel of the tektro lever hoods to be a bit 'Marmite'. Not too bad for me, especially as I have quite small hands, but others hated them.
-
• #318
what's the deal with these that came with the Bluemels?
do you trim the stays or cut the ends off the above to get an even clearance?
-
• #319
trim the ends and fit them in the plastic outers so you don't catch them on anything. A dremel is useful for this if you have one.
-
• #320
Bolt cutters work too but leave a very sharp edge
-
• #321
I assume the alternative is to leave the stays and cut the caps off the black bits...
Also, should the fork crown mount be touching the headset? I assume that might need trimming too?
Don't really wanna introduce spacers
-
• #322
Cutting the ends off the black caps will totally defeat their purpose, their there to stop the sharp end left my cutting stabbing you.
-
• #323
yeah but you can still have them on the ends....?
I spaced the chainstay mount with some v-brake hardware...
fits perfectly now for these tyres...
Nice coverage
Might need to tidy up this mount somehow, bit ugly...
And definitely sort out the rear end!!

Sorry for the massive pictures - if you use Chrome and the hover/preview plug in, you shouldn't have a problem though :)

front stays trimmed and fitted. just went halfway with a junior hacksaw, then twisted the rest off, and filed it clean. also trimmed the fork crown mount. Only clipped off the very top that was touching the crown race, there's still room to move it lower if I want to.
I have a pair of hardly used tektro rl340 levers in all black. Pm me if that's the way you decide to go.
