I did have a bit of an immature smirk on my face when I got given 69 as my number for this year

Looking back at the last week's Track League, last race of 15k was run in 19:23 - that's an average of 46.4kph!

Just before my track season ended at the end of February (I live in Auckland) I did a catA 15k scratch race, the first 10 laps were done at just over 48kph. I got dropped of the back on at about 13k as things wound up a bit. Even the fast guys (a couple of ex junior world champs) said the pace was bloody silly. I think they averaged just over 50 by the end. Mine would have been less due to said dropping. CatA sucks. It was probably the only windless day at Manakau velodrome. It is great fun to ride though, 44degrees with lovely big cracks in it.

Tonight was my first visit this year.
'A' category had a visiting German (I think) pro. Sehr schnel!

Yeah, he rides 6 day track races and will be racing at the Lea Valley this Friday along side Ed Clancy and others. What a sandbagger he is, smashed it tonight to bits, people were dropping off like flies.

Do you know his name? I forgot to ask.
-
• #84
Sorry, can't remember now.

• #85
I heard Torres was there tonight? Sad to miss that.
-
• #86
Nico HeΓlich is his name.
-
• #87
Does he have HHV race accreditation though?
-
• #88
Lol, doesn't Hesslich mean 'ugly' in German?
-
• #89
And no, he doesn't. They changed the rules yesterday morning so international pros don't require accreditation.
I know, I know! One rule for us...

Also he was riding with SRM monitor on his bars, where we have to hide any computers out of sight and normally the lights turned down as soon, as we've finished the last race - last night the lights were on for as long, as the pro needs.

Maybe it's worth bending the rules to get a few more high profile riders onto that track, especially given the new kid in town, 10 miles north east?
I don't know.
I do know that getting your bike into a thule bike box after dark would be a painful experience!
Have you scored many points yet then D?

Has Fred Wright turned into a bit of a monster? Wasn't he mainly racing in the Bs last year? Great results for him.

• #94

Got my number today for this year's league and it is the same, as last year. Honestly, I didn't even try. Must be magnets or something...
